Full coat How long does it take for Yorkies to get a full coat? I got my maltese at 5 month and his hair was very long. My yorkie hair is nowhere near that length at six months. So I was just wondering |
It really depends on his bloodlines and his coat type. True silk coats are usually thin and slow growing. Do you have some pictures of your yorkie? |
Laddy's takes forever, Kyra's was to the floor at a year old, so like BJH said depends on the coat. |

1 Attachment(s) Lola has a silk coat and her hair was a few inches shy of the floor at 8 months. I posted a picture. I think she's 5-6 lbs in that picture, she's barely 7lbs now at 1.5 years. She had a white spot on her chest as a puppy and that's supposed to mean the dog will be a good coat grower, and Lola defiantly is. |

It takes a long time to grow out. But it also depends on the pup. I'm anxious to see what Lilys coat is like too! |

Also to state the obvious a taller YOrkie is going to take his coat longer to reach the floor. And pure silk does grow slower. |

1 Attachment(s) This is an example of a silky coated yorkie with green eye shine. This is not my yorkie but she is a champion and an excellent representative of the breed. I have found that the eye shine works well in determining the type of coat. green and blueish green usually mean silky coats. Gold shine is usually a modified silk and red or orange shine usually means cottony coat. It is not 100% accurate but it has always worked for me. |
1 Attachment(s) Kyra has red shine to her eyes but her coat doesn't tangle to bad, just under the armpits mostly. Laddy the green shine and never tangles. I thought Kyra a cotton coat because of her eye shine but a breeder here told me she looks silky. All a bit confusing to me. This was her at a year old. |
