Itching really bad Dolly has started itching real bad this evening I am sure it is here allergies acting up she weighs 5# 6oz do you think it would be ok if I give her half a benadryl pill. Thanks in advance for your help also how often should I give her this |
Hi, my dog is currently having bad allergies - suspect either chicken, grass, hayfever or dog nuts! There are certain human antihistamines that you can give dogs but give a vet a ring and ask to be sure. I give my dog 1/8 of a Zirtec tablet. She weighs 4.5kg. The best thing I have found for itching is to run a luke-warm bath. Pour lots of 100% oatmeal in and lots of baking soda/bicarbonate of soda. Let it all set in bath for 10 mins and then put the dog in for 10-15 mins - rubbing the oatmeal onto the particularly itchy areas. Gives them great immediate relief for a good few hours! |
I sounds like she might have a flea on her. It only takes one flea to drive them nuts and make them scratch a lot. Do you have a flea comb? Fleas can be really hard to spot on yorkies that have a lot of coat. Giving her a bath might help too like was suggested in the previous post. |
