Hello Everyone! I am new to this website and appreciate being with others who love their Yorkies. Our little man "Breeze" turned 15 yrs in May. He had dental work done around the same time and needed to have several removed. Since then his weight has gone down to about 2 lbs from his healthy 3.4 lbs. We have tried a number of different foods, but welcome any thoughts about how or what might help him put some weight on. We are worried that we may lose him too soon.

My boy is 13 and quite a bit bigger at 12 lbs. I'm in the same situation with having to get some teeth extracted and cleaned. I'm so worried though and trying to decide if it's worth it or not. I would suggest some canned food and also maybe some soft treats. If his mouth is still healing maybe that's why he isn't eating as much. Just try to pack in some high calorie food when he does eat so his weight stays up. Good luck!

First welcome to YT. When mine are not eating well I mix boiled chicken and plain white rice and feed them that. Sometimes you may have to hand feed them for a while. Praying for your little one. Have you expressed your concerns to your vet? You could also try mixing chicken baby food (the meat only kind) in with his food.

Thank you for your suggestions....I did check with the vet and he suggested the baby food. Breeze ate it for a day or two but always picked out the rice and would spit it out, and now he won't even look at it. (He has always done the same with peas!) Yesterday I did hand feed him some pablum and this morning he ate his canned (vet) food with no problem! Fingers crossed this is a new pattern....thank you for your support!

So glad to hear he ate today. It is always such a worry when they are already so small and won't eat. Will keep him in my prayers.

Might try puree'/blending the cooked rice, chicken and stuff together? Makes it have a wet/canned consistency and harder for your baby to pick around it :3
