ARRRGGGGGHHHH - Some pet owners!
 

So an hour ago I got Cookie in the car and we were about to drive over to the park, as I don't like walking her on the sidewalk where I don't have a good field of vision and might not see a loose larger dog until it's too late. Well a block away from home I see this cute litte 5 pound yorkie boy (un-neutered) just walking alone in the street. So I pull over and try to coax him over, since I see he has a tag; I want to check the tag to see if there is a phone number so I can return this little guy to his home and maybe make someone's day. But he's not coming anywhere near me while I have Cookie on her leash.

So I take Cookie home, and grab a bag of bacon treats to see if I can coax him over. He was walking in the direction of a somewhat busy city street a block south of me, so as soon as I get Cook home and get the snacks I head out in that direction. So I'm driving 5 miles an hour and holding traffic up like hell, but I don't want someone hitting this little guy. I continue south to the next block, and then the next one after, and probably spend about 15 minutes looking for this little guy.

No luck, so I try the block north of my house. And there I see him walking around a street corner opposite to this house with a group of people hanging out in back with their 3 dogs. So I ask one of the guys "Is this your yorkie? I have seen him wandering around the neighborhood." He tells me "You want him?" I say "No, he's not my dog. I just wanted to make sure he's not lost." He asks me if I want the dog again, and then says "I hate that little f--ker" in a somewhat drunken voice. But the pup went into the front yard and submitted for a tummy rub from the guy's daughter, so I knew it was his dog and he wasn't just trying to pretend so that he could go and sell it.

I wasn't going to go and lecture the guy, but God I was disgusted. The thought of my Cookie Monster wandering city streets 45 minutes before sunset! We ended up going on our walk and Cook had a great time and even made a huge poop! But that makes me livid that somoene would have such disregard for his yorkie as to let it walk the neighborhood alone and offer it to some stranger who drives up.

I mean if Cookie was outside my house or yard I'd be furiously combing the neighborhood for her. And these people don't even want their dog and let him walk through the streets two blocks from a busy street in one direction and one block from a busy street in the other. I feel for that poor pup. :(

I swear I would have taken the pup and turned him over to a good rescue if I hadn't seen the young daughter bonding with him.

I think you're a better person than me being able to leave the pup there... As bad as I'd feel for the daughter, I don't think I'd be able to sleep thinking the pup would probably get out and wander again. And next time, he might not be so lucky to be spotted by a good person like yourself.

If he offered the pup, I'm more likely to say yes and take him and find him a better home.

Another reason though, I don't want to start drama in my neighborhood. This house is one block west, one block north of me, and I don't want to be the one who took some woman's dog when her drunk husband tried to give him away. So I just politely declined and hid how much my blood was boiling at this guy's attitude.

That is so sad, we have a little morkie that lives across from us, same type of issues, don't know how many times we have taken him home.

I'd have brought him home. I'm nutso though.

Arrrrggghh!!!

Wow I don't know how I would have handled that. Knowing me my brain would have shut down and I would have said yes, got the dog home and then try to make some sense to it all. Poor pup!

Like Bobbi, I would have taken him and re-homed him.
My heart breaks for that pup!

Sadly I see this kind of thing in my neighborhood all the time too. I don't what is wrong with people. If you're not going to take care of a dog, don't get one.:mad:

Poor little guy...I hope the next time you see him he's not laying in the middle of the street. It's beyond me why some people get a pet.

I would try to run into the wife. . . Maybe she is a little easier to talk to.

and while your running into her, run him over. :rolleyes: (kidding, sorta)

Poor dog, I always wonder what sort of life a dogs gets, where someone in the family hates it. Our dog was terrified of my father, it's no life for a little dog...any dog.

I think it's very nice (and the right thing to do) to have looked for the little guy to make sure he was safe. The owner was well....just a jerk and I would have taken him up on the offer. Some people should be allowed to own pets let along bred to have children! A free neuter should be offered to this guy as well as the little Yorkie. Neither should be allowed to wander the street to possibly breed and the poor little pupster could have been injured or worse. Now that owners well it wouldn't be so horrible if he ate a bumper or something :cool:
