Good Place to Buy? Hi all, I have been reading a lot on this board about not buying from "Backyard Breeders", and "Puppy Mills". I have found a site (http://www.puppypetite.com/), and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions/feedback as to whether this would be a good place to buy from? Thanks. |
It says Not Found when you click on the site |

Definitely DO NOT buy from puppy petite. IMO, not a good place. There are many great breeders on this forum though I don't know of any in NYC. Check in the breeder forum. Good luck on your search and remember stay away from those pet stores and stick with a good breeder! |
They sell too many different breeds for me. Could be a puppy miller |
They are a breeder co-op or a broker. I am not totally opposed to brokers or breeder co-ops but you do have to be extra careful and still have lots of contact with the actual breeder for this to work. You are going to be paying more usually than buying from the breeder dorect since there is a middle man. I have found that a lot of the breeders who use brokers to advertise for them also advertise on Puppyfind and their prices are cheaper there. Long distance isn't the BEST option but if it is your only option then I would use a Puppy Escrow to avoid any money scams or an unhealthy pup or a different pup from the picture you saw, etc., I would thoroughly interview the breeder and talk to their vet, etc. I purchased one of my four from Texas and had her shipped but only after a thorough trust in the breeder and a confidence in her integrity as a breeder. It is always better to go pick the puppy up, see the parents and the facilities of the breeder whenever possible imo. |
IMO a responsible place to look for a Yorkie is the YTCA links. By doing a Google search various sites will be listed. There will be lists with screened & reputable breeders in your area to contact. Good luck! :p |
Where to buy Go to the YOrkshire Terrier Club of America website at www.ytca.org and click on their breeder referral. You will find breeders in your State. If any of them don't have something available they may be able to refer you to someone that does. These are show breeders but what they will sell you is not a show dog. They are good, quality, Yorkies sold for pet under limited registration. When you are buying from a reputable breeder, you often have to wait. Expect to be interviewed before any sale is agreed upon. The Petite pups site looks like a broker or someone breeding way too many breeds of dogs. Never buy from someone breeding a bunch of dogs. Do not buy from a broker. A broker is no different from a pet store. They buy up puppies, litters, whatever, never see the parents usually sell all sorts of breeds, know nothing about the conditions or breeder it came from, know nothing about the breed you are enquiring about. They are in it to make money selling someone else's dogs. Breeders will sell to them because they don't want to deal with puppy buyers, don't want you on their premises, and hard to make any guarantee if there is one, stick. I would never ever consider selling one of my puppies or dogs through a third party whether it be a pet store, broker or other means. The buyer must come and talk to me in person, pass my screening process before I will sell a pup. |
IMO puppy millers use brokers and pet shops to sell their puppies since they are mass producing them. Alot of puppymills are in the middle of nowhere in places such as Missouri. It is more cost effective for the puppies to be shipped and sold for 3 times more in places like California or for a broker to sell them over the internet. The site also uses the word teacup, size shoudn't be the only concern or the first. Health should be. Another thing I didn't like is that they do sell so many different breeds. Find someone who specializes in one breed. good luck! |
nope, check search for stories of people who bought sick pups from there. |
Usda WE ARE FULLY LICENSED WITH THE NYS DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AS WELL AS THE USDA Isn't that a sign of a puppy mill? |

Just a word of advice. Being a member of the YTCA does not mean that you are above repraoch. I have been told of some real cute stunts that a member of YTCA has done in the past and still a member. They are not flattering for this breeder or the club. You still need to do your homework so that you don't fall into the quickstand. There are wonderful breeders out there who do not belong to YTCA and who have never showed a dog in thier life. It is the human nature of man to want to place our trust and faith in those that according to that one list That Southern Cal posted should be a help to us due to their involvement in the breed. (The list desribed the classes of breeders.) Remember that YTCA like AKC really does not become involved in a lot of issues concerning the purchase of your dog and problems. They will stand back and let you duke it out in the legal system when it comes to your dog and problems. I would like to see the AKC take more of a stand on issues to help the person who has purchased a dog when problems arise. I also have deep feelings for the rights of the breeder. I have been on both sides and have seen firsthand how complicated situations can become. I would stay away from the breeder you are talking about- it looks like a broker to me. When friends work together- we state up front it is not our puppy on the website and who the baby belongs to. The red flags go up when I see all the diferent breeds. I help my friends but only with Yorkies and no other breed. Most of us are now getting websites so I find that we are doing less of this all the time. There is no need. If someone calls and I do not have a puppy or do not have what they want I ask if they have checked out my friends websites and send them there directly. |
