Food and other question Sorry, i know I ask a lot of questions but my learning curve is very high here. In terms of dog food, do we feed them the same food all the time? Do you feed different foods? How often should we chnage the food they eat? 2nd question i have is regarding it's fur/hair. His leg is quite hairy so when he goes outside, and it is wet, he will get wet. How do we cut the hair on his feet? He'll get really pissed. Also, right now I just grab him and cuddle him and wipe his feet with a towel which drives him nuts. I dont know why. Does it feel uncomfortable to wipe their feet? |
Pick one good food and stick with it. Yorkie stomachs can be very sensitive to change. I wipe my 2 pups feet every time after they come in, it doesn't seem to bother them but some dogs are more sensitive about their feet being touched. You can desensitize him by petting and holding his paws gently, maybe treats while you are holding and slowly introducing the wiping. I keep my guys hair on the feet pretty short but the wiping still helps. |
Ha, I suppose there's two sides to every story... I have four guys, and keep three types of food (Beef*/Foul/Sea) out for them 24/7. They alternate between the flavors, but seem to prefer more Beef in the cold months, and the others during the summer. All were raised from Puppies with this regimen, and I don't have any issues with Resource Guarding. In fact, I think I have the most polite dogs ever, when it comes to sharing their food. Probably because of the abundance. This approach is not very popular here on the forum (lots of ways I do things aren't) but it has worked well for me, and, it's apparent that my guys like the variety. I think the most important issue is, that you provide them with a high quality diet, regardless of flavor or consistency. You can find some very highly rated foods here... I feed the same foods most of the time but occasionally substitute for variety. Some of my dogs are able to eat more variety while other dogs do best eating the same exact food each day. I home cook for my dogs, but have always kept some kibble around, and they do just fine. Best wishes. |
I forgot to mention... I comb the longer Hair back away from their toes/claws, and clip/shave their feet, then, comb the longer hair back over them. I do this with an Electric Trimmer. It's quick, very thorough, and they get used to it quickly. When the longer hair gets too long, I just trim it where it's just above the floor. |
thanks all for the response. :) |
You can always go to a groomer to get his nails and feet trimmed |
I always just wash Cookie's feet off in the bathtub when I bring her in and it's a muddy day. |
