New YT dropping in to say a big Hello! Hello, my name is Lisa and I am a new YT member, and I live in Saskatchewan, Canada. I am currently in the process of researching yorkies and yorkie breeders in the hopes of finding my perfect match and my other half! I have been particularly interested in yorkies for about a year, but have only started doing some serious research as of recently (past month or so). I am still in the process of saving up money, so as hard as it is, I am in no rush and am taking my time doing as much research as possible. For instance, learning that "tea-cup" yorkie breeders are something to run FAR away from due to major health problems, and just plain ignorance on the breeders part - was very eye opening for me - as a year ago that was exactly what I thought I was looking for. So in my search, I figured this would be the perfect place to settle in during and after my journey of finding my new friend. Finding a respectable and reputable breeder has proven daunting, and a little overwhelming with all of the things I need to consider. For instance, it seems more than likely that I will need to end up having my puppy shipped or flying over to pick the puppy up, or potentially an extremely long drive. Depending on my situation when the time comes, that latter would be preferable. So for these reasons, finding a reputable and respectable breeder that will possibly ship, becomes even more scary. At the very least, I'm hoping a skype interview will be doable - as I would like to actually meet the breeder in some way before I purchase. So, alas my search continues. I will keep updated, and may have questions along the way that I hope some of you can guide me on. Again, a big hello, and I look forward to meeting and talking with all of you. All my best, Lisa |
Welcome to YT. The learning path you are on will be worth it in the end. Considering all the years you will get to enjoy your new furbaby a road trip to see/retrieved him/ her may be the least of it. The one thing I learned was to "buy" (choose) your breeder first then your pup! A good breeder will be of great value to you over the life of your time with your pup. Four years later and I am still contacting my dog's breeder for advice. Good luck - enjoy the journey- you have come to the right place. The folks here are wonderful and very knowledgeable and are always ready to help. |

I agree with Ann about reaching out to Gemy. She has a wealth of knowledge about Yorkies and dogs in general. She does temperament testing on young pups and also helps to evaluate them. Three years ago I spent the day with her at the Yorkshire Terrier National Specialty in Manhattan, and I learned so much about movement, structure, and the breed that I've shared my life with for over thirty years. It was so fascinating and also wonderful to be sharing the day with such a dear friend. It is because of Gemy and my other very dear friend, Jackie, that I have my little girl, Katie. Gail's Razzle earned his American and Canadian championship, and he is also Grand Champion. Although she lives a distance from you, she is very familiar with other Canadian show breeders. These links might help you in your research. Two were written by Gail (Gemy). http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pup...ant-puppy.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...e-breeder.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...p-10-list.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pri...wpm&u=19203647 |
Thank you for all the kind words, support and information, everyone. I would like to get a hold of "Gemy" as a few of you have suggested. I am finding the CYTA website the directory of breeders a little hit and miss, more than a few websites seem to be outdate/not updated. The frustrating thing for me is when I google breeders in Canada, most of the links that have been popping up are for TeaCup/Baby Dolls. Very frustrating. Only a limited number of breeders show up as well. Crossing my fingers that I can get a hold of Gemy and she can point me in the right direction. |
Also searching YT I seem to find a lot of bad breeders to stay away from (which is extremely great information) but not a lot of threads/posts that point that point a person the direction of a reputable breeder. Maybe I need to dig a little deeper around the forum. |
