New baby 1 Attachment(s) Well we got Zowie yesterday. Trixie is not at all happy, she won't go anywhere near the puppy. If I hold the puppy she won't be near just sits off pouting. I am trying make sure she knows I love her most. Right now the puppy is off with my daughter and trixie is happy. Is there a good way to help her not be scared to death of this puppy...or jealous? |
Congrats on your new baby. Each time I came home with a new baby my older girl / girls wanted no part of the new one. They took to higher grounds (the sofa) where they were safe from the bouncing, biting fur ball. As soon as the puppy was able to jump on and off the sofa (about 6 weeks) the older ones had no choice but to accept the new one. My first girl was not jealous or pouting when I came home with 2nd baby, I showed my first one she was the Alfa girl, when I came home with # 3 my older ones were 6 y/o & 3 y/o again, no jealousy, or pouting, just stayed off the floor away from baby jaws. Show Trixie more attention so she may not be jealous, as far as fear, she'll get over that in time. The new baby is all bouncy and biteie, older gals don't like to be pounced on and nipped at, she will adjust in her own time. Don't force the baby on her, let Trixie come to the puppy in her own time. Soon they will be the best of pals.Good luck and enjoy the double trouble duo lol. |
I have been dealing with this same problem. We have a female schnauzer that has been an only dog for about 9 years. It's been 4 weeks since we brought our new puppy home and today for the first time our schnauzer girl actually played with him. At first she acted like she wanted no part of him. She would run as fast as she could and get up on the couch or bed whenever he was out of his pen. I think it just takes time and it's best to not force anything. |
Oh what a little cutie. It took Laddy about a month to accept Kyra. Just keep showing Trixie lots of attention. |
It just takes some times...just give them both lots of love, and show Trixie that she is very important...always giving her the treat first etcetera. |
Don't put too much worry into this common behavior because before you know it they will be "buds". ;) |
Trixie Trixie is very upset....should I try to not let her see me hold or pet the puppy I am worried about neglecting the puppy too much also. |
