new to Yorkie Talk Hello, I am Cheryl and we now have a Yorkie. His name is Snickers and he is now almost 10 months old. He is such a little bundle of joy. I have had big dogs all my life, but due to bad feet and a bad hip, I have decided to go small. We still have our Rotty, Riddick, he is now 7 1/2 yrs old. He is also my pride and joy. We got Snickers last November at 9 weeks old. I was just wondering if someone could offer a suggestion as to when to start feeding Snickers adult food. I have heard some say 10 mo and others say a year. I am attaching a picture of Snickers at Christmas last year and one of him now. He is such a handsome little guy, so full of energy and life and such a little lover. Thank you and have a nice day! Cheryl :animal-pa |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk, Cheryl. Your photo of Snickers did not post. You may have to resize it, make it smaller. Here is some helpful info: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...-pictures.html For adult food, I have read anywhere from 8 months to 1 year is fine. I changed around 11 to 12 months because my boys were still growing up until that time. |
I have kept my adults on puppy food just about their whole life and I have not had any issues. A few times over the years I would try to give them adult food and they did not seem to like it as well so I just switch back to the puppy food. I think it would depend on what brand of food you feed. At one point I was feeding Canidae which is an all stages of life food. Then I switched to Chicken Soup dry puppy food. I just think it is best to feed them a dog food that is not more than 28% protein. At least that is what has worked for me. |
Hi and welcome to you and little Snickers. I put mine on adult small breed at 1 year old per vets instructions but am sure others have different ideas on when or if to switch. |
Hi and welcome to YT! My vet has suggested switching at one year but that's just his opinion. I will switch Lily then. Can't wait to see pictures! |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk |
Hi welcome to Yorkietalk :) |
Welcome :) I always switch at ten - twelve months. |
Hi & welcome!! |
Hello and welcome to YT! |
Love the name Snickers. Welcome to Yorkie Talk. |
Hi and welcome to YT. "When" I had puppies my vet advised to change at 1 year old. It is always best to seek advise from your vet, he / she knows your pup, has pups medical records. What works for one persons dog may not work for yours. I would stick to what my vet advises. Good luck. |
