And the spending spree begins.... Hi everyone, I have noticed as I have read the post along this board that most everyone does spend quite a bit on their little ones. I am currently waiting not so patiently to get my new baby. (I should get her by this weekend)I have found though that even before I had found my puppy I was already excited and started buying stuff here and there. A few toys a bed, blanket filter water system or and lets not forget the clothes. I notice I am not the only one to spoil these little guys but I was wondering if it wares off, or do you continue to buy until the checkbook says no way? Just a thought because I figure it it will be a lasting trend I need to let my hubby in on it, or boy will he be mad!LOL You should have seen his face when I brought home the water bowl thing, he just rolled his eyes and said here we go! any thoughts? thanks Brandi |
No, it doesn't get better! Whenever I go to a store, I always have to go to the doggy department and see if there is anything she would like. I go to the thrift stores, and look for toys she can play with also, She loves when I bring her home something new! I am always making her new dresses, knitting new sweaters, etc. I guess she has replaced my grown up kids! Ha! Pat |
spending Therapy would be cheaper! Haha.......maybe we could start a group YA....Hi my name is Jim and I have a male Yorkie, and will soon have 2. |
Oh my, I guess I am going to be in trouble. |
Me too! I have already bought a dog carrier and my mom is taking me shopping on sunday to get more puppy stuff. I will not be getting my little boy until May 1st. |
Oh Gosh!! Does it ever get better? Heck no! It only gets worse, atleast with me anyway!!! No matter where I go store wise I ALWAYS first look to see what I can buy for Schatzie. Online shopping is my worst habit too when it regards Schatzie. My husband finally stopped shaking his head and just accepted the way things are around here, hahahahaa.. We went to the horse races last weekend and I bought her a toy pony, oh it's adorable too!! Now, how it really gets worse is buying yet another Yorkie and doing DOUBLE shopping!! That is what I am working on now, he heee!! Schatzie alone has 4 beds if that tells you anything. Toys that I've lost track of, hair bows forever laying around the house, too many food dishes, clothes which some fit, some don't. And of course matching leashes/harnessess. It never ends, TRUST ME!! Oh, and then you can't take pictures alone so I have to buy "props".... Infact, in today's mail more bows and rubber bands came! LIFE IS GOOD! :D |
lWelcome Jim! When will you get your new puppy, and how old is yhe one you have now? Thought of getting another one, but they are so much work along with my birds, that I think one is enough for me! lol Pat |
Thanks, our Max is 5 months and e is just the best....we all love him. His brother won't be coming home till the end of the month. Max is my sons dog now my daugher wants one too.....so who are we to disagree....they really are the cutest little dogs. Max does have a lot of toys and I am always tripping over something......thanks for the welcome, I have really been enjoying this site. |
I am so glad to hear that this money spending is a "habit" with more then just me!!!! When I call my family (they all live out -of-state ) they think I'm crazy!!! My hubby kinda just shakes his head and say's what ever makes you happy......Kai is quite spoiled , and I'm pretty sure she does not even know shes a doggie!!! My hubby had a vascectomy in his prevoius marriage , so we cannot have children together (we both have children just not with each other) and Kai has kinda became that baby that I want and cannot have!!! (ok so by now I probley have come close to spending enough to reverse his vascectomy) I have been firmly cut off from the clothes buying sooooo I guess it's time to learn to sew....So nope pretty sure this does not get better .....Kai has a car seat , which BTW..hubby made very well other then being a little heavy.. A baby carrier ...Lots of clothes , toys , bows ,Ect....... Just repeat after me...I AM NOT CRAZY , I AM NOT CRAZY!!!!! |
Brandi: AFTER you get your Yorkie baby, I think you'll realize why so many of us spoil our Yorkies so much. We really just can't help it! They are just so adorable, cute, and lovable! But you can try to set a budget and try to stick to it. ;) |
Brandi: Dont declare urself insane if u start getting this new mommy feeling, i think most of us have it or have had it in the past.... u just cant help urself and really they are just like babies, i dont think Chelsey knows shes a dog really lol... she is our baby and she acts that way too...... our son is big now so i cant fuss around him anymore, i cant make him wear what i want him to and Chelsey loves anything i put her in, i show her in the mirror what she looks like lol like i said in another post, i havent done any shopping for myself since we have our little one, its all gone to her :D |
Once you get them, they are so addicting that they consume your every thought. I think about my baby all day when I'm working, I even laugh out loud remembering something cute he did. Every store I go to, I have to look at pet supplies and 2 out of 3 times at a store, I will come home with something for him. If I have 20.00 to blow however I want, it will be spent on my baby as he comes first, LOL. |
Oh Yeah, I had lunch with a friend today and the FIRST thing I said was, "I gotta tell you what Bo did this morning...". She just kinda rolled her eyes like, OK Cynthia, I'll humor you yet again! ...Hi, I'm Cynthia and I'm a Yorkaholic!! |
You know, when I go shopping for myself, to buy clothes, I always feel guilty not buying my boyfriend any clothes, well, now I'm feeling that about my dog. So, whenever I go shopping, I too find myself looking for dog stuff. |
that was close Well I am definatly glad I am not alone. My poor husband just rools his eyes and shugs a bit when he sees me buy more stuff. I do feel like a new mommy in a way. (Not like I dont have enough people screaming in my ear I had to add another) but this seems diffrent in a good way. I look at it as she will be my buddy. I like the idea of dressing her up, although I must admit when I tell people that they look at me like I am nuts. "Your going to what??" I figure they just dont understand what it is like. Besides I have seen so many cute outfits for them and the bow galore. I can see me spending money almost all the time. I just hope the other "kids" dont get jealous. Owell Thanks everyone, I was starting to worry for a minute |
Marlee, you shouldn't feel bad at all. It's all in good fun. And start by dressing your dog up now, so it's used to the clothes. I have a feeling if you started later on, the dog might hate wearing clothes. It's almost like you are a new mommy. Have fun! I too am in the same boat, so I can totally relate.... |
IHeartYorkies I talk about my baby all the time and people roll their eyes or think I'm crazy. They always say, he's just a DOG. Well I guess they couldn't completely understand until they had a little yorkie and know the love you feel for them. When I talk about getting him a car seat and shirts and ANOTHER toy, they just don't get it. |
It hasn't ended for me yet. In fact, I just bought some more things for the doggies today! I got them the "Chewy Vuitton" purse toy and "Chewnel No 5." toy as well. :D They are so spoiled. People think I'm crazy too, but know that you can always come here and you're not alone. We all spoil our babies (everyone in their own way, which is part of what makes this forum so cool) |
Oh no way does it ever wear off! lol I've had Bounce 3 years and I STILL buy him everything under the sun. Even more stuff than i buy myself. Let's just say this past weekend I found some REALLY cute shoes that I would have DIED for? Why did I not get them? I saw a jacket for Bounce.....how sad is that?! lol Let your hubby know before it's too late! haha You'll never stop spending on your baby, trust me. :) |

My husband always teases me and says, "I wanna be a dog, I wanna be YOUR dog"...It just cracks me up!! :D |
Schatzie, I take it personal too! I find it very sad that they must live life without the type of love like I have found. Well, too bad for them! |
Honestly I think what this comes down to is simple economics. All the money we save on dog food we spend on toys/cloathing/acoutraments etc; thereby doing our part for the economy! simple, isn't it? |
Spoiled? Thats an understatement No, you are not crazy, cause if you are, then I am totally insane. I have two boy babies, probably the only ones on earth that have personally monogrammed bathrobes with their names above a yellow ducky. They also have boots and hooded raincoats, then their Anaheim Angels regulation hats, batting helmets, 2 diffrent monagrammed custom shirts each, bandannas, visors, and on and on and on, my kids are talking about having me committed. If I need to have my hair done (colored and cut) and the dogs need grooming, guess who I make an appointment for? its loads of fun though |
I thought I was the only one who worried about my baby when we were gone for awhile. But yesterday, we stopped in to see my daughter and her boys. Then decided to go to dinner. When we were in the restuarant for a while, my husband turned to me and said, "Poor Snoodles" She is home alone, we better hurry and get home!" It touched my heart and made me smile! This from a man who said we could not have another dog, and ingnored it when I got it for a whole day! Ha! Who could not fall in love lwith these precious babies? Pat |
The canine money pit  Having a dog is VERY expensive proposition! I am probably way up there on the “guilty” list as, in addition to the usual stuff people buy for their dogs, I buy show equipment, agility equipment, books, videos, etc. But that’s just the beginning. What I find most expensive are the vet bills. Sadly the older your dog gets, the more those bills grow, but even regular check-ups and vet care for a healthy dog is expensive. For instance, had to take all three of my munchkins to the vet this past weekend to have their heartworm tests. Out vet is very helpful and works with me but he cannot prescribe heartworm preventative, a necessary evil in New York during warm weather days, without running this test first (even though both he and I would be willing to put money on the fact that none of my dogs have the condition). Each dog was a $78 bill (and then I sent the scripts out to Foster & Smith, purchasing a number of other items for dogs and parrot, for a total order of $180). If your dog gets sick, boy can you be in trouble! When Bun had his Addison’s crisis, I ran up nearly $4000 worth of vet bills. He will now be on meds for the rest of his life. $150 worth of DOCP a year and prednisone every day for the rest of his life. You may need to have a real sit-down chat with hubby if you haven’t done so already. |
Me Too Hey I just got my little fella (Tiko) And I spoil him to already. :D My husband just looks at me like I am crazy also. But I love him so much. ANd when he does the head tilt it just makes me want to just hold him. I am a YORKAHOLIC! |

HOW TRUE is this? u know, ppl would really tramp me on my heart if they would make the comment "its just a dog" sometimes i see ppl look at Chelsey and then they look at me, i kinda feel what they thinking, but its ppl like this that either DONT like animals or they have never had the experience of yorkielove.... all i think of them is that they are really poor souls.... in the beginning i really cared what other ppl would think, but she is MY baby and WE love her and thats what its all about, i dont need anybody's aproval to love her...... she is slower then other yorkies of her age, maybe its got to do with birth... maybe it will pull right, maybe it wont, but no matter what... she is extra special to us! |
My sisters all have big dogs so when I come in with my little guy in a sweater and bows I get that she's nuts look. One recently got a Maltese and now she understands! :D Now she wants to know where I got everything. One thing to keep in mind though is they will grow out of things. I can't wait to buy him this really cute leather harness but it isn't cheap so I'm waiting until I'm sure he is full grown. |
