Puppy Questions Hi Everyone I will be getting puppy in about a week, so I have some questions. I have had dogs all my life but never a Yorkie and never such a small dog. If I could get some information or I guess maybe I should say a list of everything I should have the day we bring "Willow" home. Thank you very much. Terry |
We found the change to a tiny dog was the hardest. Blocking off a room (the unused dining room) was easier than loosing her under chairs and couches and open doors. We moved out the furniture and put a couple of low beach chairs and everyone went and sat on the floor with the puppy. She spent quite a few months there! She was easy to train and keep a eye on in such a limited area. |
My best advice is to realize they are fragile small dogs that THINK they're big. I was holding MJ with one hand in a tall chair when he jumped off of it out of no where! Luckily, he didn't get hurt, but I spent $200 in x-rays that day. It was VERY scary. Then, he runs faster than I walk and I've kicked him like 5times already. It's like having a toddler that's as fragile as an infant. Keep them away from high places and while they're a puppy, watch them at all times. I don't know how clean you are, but I'm constantly scooping out small pieces of food/dirt out of his mouth that he found on the floor. (Don't worry, I'm deep cleaning today) |
Congrats on your new baby! I just got my Lily so I will tell you what works for us. 1. Nutri cal 2. Blanket 3. Crate 4. Xpen 5. Chew toys 6. Stuffed animal with mommas scent on it 7. Brush/comb 8. Shampoo 9. Food bowls and food 10. Potty pads 11. Treats for when she goes potty on the pad. :D 12. Car seat (if you plan on going anywhere) 13. Camera! Lol. :p It will such an exciting day! Can't wait to see pictures. |

right now we only let our girl out of her playpen if we are supervising or holding her. otherwise she stays there (it's pretty roomy for her size, so she can run and bounce a little :3) when she's older, we'll leave the flap open for her to come and go as she pleases. Our house is decently baby/puppy proof but there's still some areas that have things we have to watch on. |
Thanks so much for all the information, I will put it all to good use. It is an exciting time, but only about a week now. Willow will be Maryland Bound.:) Terry |

I'm in the same boat. I have had lots of large dogs (some of my own and some fosters)...I'm a bit nervous about bringing home a small guy too. Good luck and have fun :) |
No going outside or interacting with strangers until ten days after atleast second shot series. Very im portant. |
