Brodie Hello everyone, I'm new on here and I have a few questions pertaining to my 3 mo old yorkie. He is a big part of my life and I don't know if I'm training him correctly because I'm really not getting him to listen to me. There are a few things that he does but, then when I try doing the same thing like for example when I take him for walks he just wants to not listen to me. When it comes to potty he is getting better although I use the puppy pads. When we are outdoors there is a certain spot that he always want to go to and I will not let him do to that it is in the garage where there is stuff that may not be good for him in there. It is like he is going to do what he wants to do. I also have to have him on a leash at all times so for one we don't step on him!! He is only 2 lbs and 1 oz.:aimeeyork. He does sleep in his own bed and in a different room if I don't take him with me he always whines and barks because he does not get his way! I'm so confused and was really considering to take him to obedience classes so will listen better. Help please getting frustrated. |

Don't be too discouraged, he is still a puppy and just like a toddler will test their boundaries and take time to learn. You just have to keep on it and be consistent. Puppy obedience classes are still a good idea to help with socialization and to teach you some basic obedience. Lexi is 6 months old and I am starting her in classes this weekend. |
Thank you for your response :) I find myself getting very discouraged about it and I know that he is just a baby and I think I spoil him a little bit also. |
Right now just keep him safe and warm and fed. Start working on teaching him where he should potty, what he can chew on and NOT chew on. He shouldn't be in public until he finishes all of his vaccines. (4 months?) |
I agree that you should focus on the potty training right now. Do you have him sleeping in a crate at night? I would have him sleep in your room in a his crate so he can see you to make him feel more safe. The first couple nights Lexi whined, but now she still sleeps in her crate every night with no problem. She sleeps much better when she is in the same room as me. Just make sure you don't give in to the whining and take him out or he will continue to do it. It's hard, but well worth it in the end. |
He's just a baby. When he is old enough, I would definitely recommend puppy classes. As for now, just be consistent and let him know what you expect of him. Are you praising him when he listens to you? Make sure he knows that you will praise him and give him small treats when he potties where you want, walks how you want etc. Good luck! |
