Regretting spay? Got my baby pebbles spayed 6-27. Was doing great till 7-4. She has been sneezing and runny nose. Not sure if it is related or not. She was 8 months when spay done and weighed 2 1/2 pounds. She got 6 baby teeth removed but they left 2 teeth because as the vet put it she was getting in "trouble" so couldn't keep her under any longer. I get her sutures out in the morning and see why is she having a runny nose. She is acting normal and doesn't eat much anyway so that hasn't changed. I think maybe allergies but we will see. Also the doctor that did my bam bam was not the same one that did pebbles. I was told it would be the same doctor. Wish me luck. I will be there at vets when they open the doors at 8 am. |
Sounds like she may have an upper respiratory. This could have been caused by any number of things. If it is a doggy cold it will go away and your baby will still be healthier, life longer, and not contribute to the overpopulation of animals. You did the right thing by spaying her! |
I agree you absolutely did the right thing by spaying her. She will live a much longer life. Hang in there. |
Her immune system is probably a little worn out from surgery. Just keep her rested and make sure she's eating healthy. Even though we've had a few females dogs spayed with no problem, I will probably be a nervous wreck when my future girl will have hers done. |
It may be unrelated to the spay but it makes u think it may be a correlation between the 2. I kept talking myself out of spaying her and just waiting until she was a year old and a little bigger. That is major surgery and scary to put something to sleep that small. Just hope nothing happens to her and that I will regret doing the spay. Wish it was a way to tell when a pup comes into heat so I could have possibly put it on hold even longer. Sighhhhh. |
Was she vaccinated for Bordatella recently ? if yes then that may be the problem. Also, she may have been exposed during her surgery stay. If she's got a runny nose & coughing I would have her seen ASAP. If she's just got a bit of a cough then it may just be that the air tube from surgery caused a bit of an irritation. Please don't regret the spay as you did the right thing. I hope it's nothing serious & she'll be better in no time. |
No she hasn't been vaccinated recently. Finished all shots around 5 months or so. Thanks for the kind words. Taking her in as soon as vet office opens. I left her there over night at their direction. Kinda wish I had took her home same day as I did bam bam after his neuter. He did great and is doing fine now. Thank goodness I kept them apart so she could recover from her surgery and at least he didn't get exposed to her if she has anything contagious. Will update when I return from vet. |
Hoping your lil girl is doing a bit better today. Taking her to your vet is the wisest thing you can do. Do not regret spaying her, it is the healthiest thing you could have done for her. My first 2 babies I did not have spayed because they were just little babies and I was scared for them to under go surgery. At age 14 my first one got pyometra, her uterus erupted, puss went through her blood system, they did a full hysterectomy but it was to late and I lost her, 6 months later my second un-spayed girl (age 11 y/o) got pyometra, I recognized the symptoms and rushed her to ER, it was caught before the uterus erupted. Because of my fear to have little babies under go surgery my first one died a painful death, and the second one suffered also, because of my fears. My 3rd female I had to shut my heart down to my fears (I had not lost my first 2 when I got the 3rd) and had her spayed. She passed at age 14 bad heart, kidney failure, but not the painful death of pyometra. My 4th girl I knew about pyometra, and had no fears of her under going surgery, I knew I was saving her from pyometra. She lived to be 17 y/o. I would never want anyone to go through seeing their lil girl get pyometra possibly at an older age. Never regret getting her spayed. |
Back from vet. They said she might have got irritated from the tube they used during surgery. She gave me an antibiotic. She took sutures out and said site looked fine. She has upper respiratory infection. Hopefully antibiotic clavamox will help. I don't regret the spay just the complication from the spay. I know that spay and neutering is best for them. Also was told o get children's Benadryl and give it to her also. Thanks everyone u guys are great. |
Benadryl Be careful with the Benadryl, as there are several different liquid forms which have different amounts of the drug in the same amount of the syrup. You have to check how many mg/ml and know how many mg to give. |
Yes thanks. She gave me syringe and I have looked at the bottle to get the right dose |
Yes thanks. She gave me syringe and I have looked at the bottle to get the right dose? Also she didn't even get sleepy from it |
Thanks for the update, so happy too see your lil girl is being treated and will be back to her lil ole fresh self, Sorry she had complications, spaying usually goes so smoothly. |
