New to YorkieTalk Hello Everyone, I have just joined YorkieTalk. I have recently (1 week to be exact) adopted a 2yr old male Yorkie, his name is Boogi (my 2yr old daughter named him). I wasnt planning on having a dog actually my husband didnt want a dog (I did), but one of my coworkers cousin had him and he was being abused, he was kept in his crate all day long without taking him out but only to clean his crate and bathe him. She had 4 kids and didnt want him anymore, finally she convinced her cousin to give him up for adoption and told me about him. Since i saw him at the vets office I fell in love with him (so did my baby girl who was scared of dogs) Surprisingly they are best friends, he got used to my house very quickly!! I was thinking of getting a crate but he won my husband over and he is not allowing him to get a crate or be in one. He now sleeps in the partly finished basement and is as happy as can be, Boogi stays there at night and when we leave for work he has plenty of room to run and play. I love reading all of your threads and would love to get any tips and advice on how to make the new member of my family happier and keep him healthy. Thank you for reading this long intro. :animal36 |
Hi and welcome to YT :)!! SO glad you have Boogi, rather than his former owners...my gosh, how could they do that to him? He deserves better than that, and it sounds like he is now getting just that. As long as your basement is comfy and not too cold for him (yorkies can get quite cold due their thinner hair), it's probably a nice place for him to be when you're gone. Do you think it will be too cold in the winter though? |
Congrats and welcome :) I'm quite new myself (don't even have my pup yet)...look forward to getting to know you. |
thank you for saving him! welcome to yt! :) |
My dog was a found dog literally found outside a mall and even with an exhaustive search could not find the owner (I often think he found me!) I'd never had a Yorkie and he was such a fantastic boy he was about 3-4 by the Vet's estimation. He became a grateful and wonderful part of our family. The big mistakes I made at first was not knowing the right food and treats for him. I am new here but it seems like this is the place for great information. There are a lot of very knowledgeable owners here. |

Welcome to yt |
Thank you all...the basement has the same heating and cooling as upstairs so he will have the same as we do upstairs, it is partially finished so he has 2 rooms actually one with carpet and the other with vinyl .. if it gets to cold we will move him upstairs. Because he was kept in the crate all the time we don't want him in one for now. I really need all the help I can get, cleaning his.eyes he wont let me clean his face, they cut his hair and really did a number on him he has areas that are longer than others, should I shave him and will his hair grow fast enough before the winter? What to feed him, I was told he was eating pedigree but I can see he is not in love with it.I know the shampoo I got him is not good I just got it due to.the situation I am sure the vets office bathed him but I still.needed to do it..he lovessss to be outside especially running around the yard with my daughter..what can I use in between bathes so he doesnt smell? Like I said I need a lot of help!!! I am trying to upload the pics but they are too big, as soon as I get them I will be happy to show him off... :D Thank you all for welcoming me! :-) |
