It could happen to you. Car Accident On Wednesday, literally 2 minutes from home ( I had picked up 2 of my dogs from the groomers), an idiot decided to make a right turn from the left hand lane right in front of my van. I slammed on the brakes, but I knew I would hit him, and yanked hard right on my steering wheel so that I did not Tbone him (this was at an intersection). The point is we hit, collided. but my dogs were safe in their crates. Some shifting of a rear crate happened, but neither dog became a projectile missile with-in the car. They are well. No signs of distress in anyway. I do urge all folks to think about car travel safety for you and your pets. Having a pet free in a car is just very dangerous for all concerned. There are many options, harnesses linked into seat belts for eg. But what-ever you choose, choose something that can help to keep both you and your dogs as safe as possible in a car accident. |
A good reminder. I'm glad you and the pups are all okay. It seems like I see more and more people not paying attention when they're driving and doing stupid things like this. I seriously wonder how some people get their driver's license.:mad: I was sitting at a red light a couple of weeks ago and this car came up in the lane next to me and drove right through the red light,didn't even slow down. Luckily the person with the green light coming from the other way saw the idiot and was able to stop in time. And that's only one example of the many stupid things I've seen recently. |
I'm so glad you and your pups weren't hurt! I agree--it's very important to give this some thought before it's too late. |
Oh gosh I'm glad your babies are alright. I see less and less sane drivers. Sometimes I think they should make it mandatory to take safety driving courses (though i know it doesn't fix stupid, but might deter some). |
Thanks for the reminder, I'm glad you're all ok. My mom's friend was driving with his unrestrained Chi, something happened and his truck flipped. The dog got out and was found a few days later walking on the highway. The Chi was wearing a lifejacket and the owner thinks it protected him. |

Imagining a BRT as a projectile.... not pretty! A dog that big could cause as much if not more damage to you inside the car than the accident! Great reminder... mine are always restrained in the rear seat... especially since one day Tink stepped on the power window down button and I couldn't reach across the van to grab her. We were stopped at a light but traffic was zooming past on her side. Scared the crap out of me! Threw it in 'Park' and got the situation under control. |

I am so glad you all are ok! A lady ran a red light yesterday and almost hit us. So you are right, it can happen. So scary! Thankfully your pups were properly crated! |
In my state, it is now a law that your dog must be confined or buckled in when in the car. |
I just purchased a doggy carseat for my #5 Yorkie coming home tomorrow. |

Glad that you and your babies are ok. All my pups were restrained when in the car, been doing this since the 80's I would never have an unrestrained pup, just hitting your brakes can land them on the floor of your car. |
