Suggestions on a collar need suggestions on a collar for my 9 week old yorkie... Buddy this would just be for id tags and not for walking since i heard its best to use a harness on yorkies. i got the smallest collar i could find for a puppy and its still a tad to big for him at this point. just interested in what you guys think. should i let him grow a little more before putting a collar on him or should i try to find one even smaller. thanks |
It's safest to have a collar that fits properly bc you don't want the puppy getting hung up on something due to slack. What I did when they were little was get them a break-away cat collar since cat collars are smaller. As puppies, I never ever left them alone w/ their collar on either....until it truly fit properly and until they were used to it and didn't fidget w/ it. |
:) Hello, and welcome from 'over here'....!!! :D We used a breakaway kitten collar on Harry when he was a pup - although he was huge in comparison to most on here....:D When you're ready to look into collars when he's older - you really need to get in touch with our member Britster - she's the queen of the collars!!! Good luck and congratulations on your new little boy :) |
thanks for the replies. ill have to google a break away cat collar since im new to all this :). is that something that can be gotten at walmart or petsmart? ill defnitly look into britsters collars :) |
Yes you can purchase a kitten collar at both Walmart and Petsmart. They have a little plastic clasp that comes apart if they get caught on something. I used one too when Doodlebug was a tiny puppy. |
I agree with everyone else on the break-away cat collar. When he gets older and his neck is bigger, you might consider getting an embroidered ID collar. I could never hang tags from Bella's collar because she could chew the tags, even the metal ones . Here is the collar that Bella uses now: Personalized Dog Collars / Personalized Adjustable Dog Collar -- Orvis If someone makes embroidered break-away collars, better yet! Here is a link to a company that embroiders all of their products, including break-away collars. Please note that the embroidery is charged separately from the collar, and you have to follow another link from this page: The Cozy Critter - Safety Breakaway Collar |
thanks guys for the infor. ill go with a breakaway cat collar for now. |
I was looking into those kinds of collars too, myself. I wanted to get one with a bell, because if you have carpeting, you might not hear where your pup is. this was an issue with a yorkie we used to have, He'd follow everyone into rooms and we'd close the door behind us thinking to keep him from going in when he was already in the room lol ><;; |
Max is still small around the neck..I used to have a business where I made collars, harnesses, couplers, ect. So I just made his..I did buy him a vest harness in ex. ex small and had to put tucks in it. Good luck |
Petsmart and Petco sell ill pals collars and they have tiny sizes. |
