Help finding a Yorkie near Silver Spring, MD Hi everyone, We live in Silver Spring, Maryland and are looking for a Yorkie puppy. We are having trouble in our search. Most of the breeders we've come across have raised some red flags for us. (Raising too many breeds, raising teacups...) We want a female, non-mixed, young puppy that is regular sized, not a teacup. We want her to have traditional colors, we dont want a 'parti' or anything like that. (We prefer quiet celebrations at home lol bad joke, sorry). We are willing to travel but we'd prefer a 1-2 state radius. We've looked at akc.org, adoptapet.com, petfinder.com... we took a quick look at breeders.net and found some more red flags but might have to dig deeper. Sorry for sounding like noobs, but we are, lol. Would anyone be able to help us with our search? Reccomendations, red flags to look for, anything would help. Thank you! |
Here is a list of referrals from the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America. As always, check out the breeder carefully before making a purchase. Dog Breeders Map List- The Yorkshire Terrier Club of America |
This is a very exciting time for you! It sounds like you are doing a good job filtering through breeders I got my first yorkie, Sophia, from a breeder in Silver Spring. You may have seen her when you were looking (Susan Crummitt). On the day we picked her up, she was sweet and adorable just like we were told. What the breeder failed to mention in prior conversations, is that she had an inguinal hernia. We already fell in love so we brought her home anyway. She has had several other issues as well. Only afterwords did I learn about BYBs. So good job on reading up before hand! |
Thank you for the replies! pstinard, we will look into the YCTA recommendations. :) I'm sorry to hear about the medical issues, sophias mom. Hope she is doing better! And thank you; we are definitely trying to arm ourselves with knowledge. We will learn more with more breeder visits im sure :) |
We found Taz and DeeDee in December, 2012, at a breeder listed on breeders.net. Planned to get one, but fell in love with two -- lol! The breeder was in Stephens City, VA, not far from Winchester. You might find a breeder listed in your area too. |
Yes, do check out ytca.org -- and keep in mind that many of those Show Breeders have access to a flight courier who could fly your pup to you, in cabin for a small fee. This way, you may be able to choose a pup from far away, yet still use a YTCA Show breeder, if that's your preference. |
