Price is all relative, really, when you think about it. Those who paid $300 for their yorkies may scoff at those who paid $600. Those who paid $600 may scoff at those who paid $1400 (what I paid for 2 of mine). Those who paid $1400 may scoff at those who pay $3000 and above and so on. I mean, at the end of the day - a breeder can set their prices at whatever they choose. Those prices may cause people to infer certain incorrect or correct things about them, and it's human nature to think, infer, judge, decide. I think we should try to be somewhat open minded about any breeder, until they prove to deserve otherwise. As far as profit - I honestly have never, ever understood people having problems w/ quality/good breeders making profit. Geesh, I'd PREFER my breeder make some sort of profit so she can recoup her funds while also having extra to perhaps make any improvement to her kennel, program, or otherwise. That said, I do not support breeding solely for profit - not one bit. Do I think 6k is the right price? Me, personally, no - I really do think it's inflated, unnecessary, and very odd -- but that's as far as my conclusions can go based upon what we know about this breeder. If she can ask and get those prices, it's her prerogative at the end of the day. I do personally think it reflects badly upon her to charge that much. Unfortunately, it makes me think of someone like Jeff Dane who was a miller and asked btwn 5-10k for his ill-bred yorkies - and that is NOT a good thought association to have! |
