I'm having a really hard time trying to clean the ears... My vet gave me an ear cleaning solution which I have repeatedly tried to use but it's impossible! I can get the drops in the ear but I can't clean anything because Chloe automatically starts getting crazy and breathing heavily in an attempt to escape. This is becoming so frustrating.. I need tips and advice on how to get through an ear cleaning without all this fuss! Treats don't work either. :( |
Work with her daily by touching her ears a part of a massage routine. To clean the ears, I put my boys on the counter. They have learned to stand still for most grooming. Putting solution in the ear feels funky, so they do squirm. I immediately start massaging the base of the ear and this helps calm them down. Then I let them go and rub their faces like crazy on the couch. :p When they finish, I have to comb their faces. |
I squirt bio-groom ear cleaner into their ears after a bath every week. I don't massage their ears and they just shake the cleaner out when they shake their heads. The ears have been clean for years doing this method. I always give a cookie treat after the bath. |
Do you clean the ear with a cotton ball after? At the vets office the tech used long cotton swabs after she put a few drops in. It's been a while now since the visit and I have been trying over and over again and I can't clean the ears! She gets so squirmy to the point that she breathes really heavy and she starts becoming stressed and mad so I end up letting her go. |

I use cotton swabs on the outer, visible part of the ear, but I wouldn't recommend this for everyone. There was one member here who ended up in the ER because the tip of the swab broke off and and went in the pup's ear canal. Never stick a swab into the ear canal. Use a cotton ball or tissue. |
