Indoor wireless pet fence Hello fellow Yorkie fans, I am a former big dog lover but I have been won over by my Yorkie Toy named Boston who does not want to be potty trained. I am looking for a wireless indoor boundary system that I can use to stop her from going up the stairs and into our living room where she likes to go potty. Boston is under 5 pounds and I cannot find a system that will work with her. Do you have any ideas? I really need to find something before my wife kicks me and my dog out! It's getting close! :) Thank you. Johnnycat |
How about a baby gate or putting the pup in a play pen when you can not watch her? Using a shock collar on a dog is very dangerous and could seriously hurt them. |
I keep a gate at the bottom of our stairs all the time as our Guinness does not go down them well so we avoid it all together. I got a low gate (18 inches high I think) so that it wasn't much of a nuisance for everyone to step over but was high enough for him. I got mine on amazon for like $20. |
Just train your dog. :) Use the tethering method if you have to (leashed to you at ALL times in the house, until potty trained) or a crate or expen when cannot be watched. I had a system with Jackson and tried to not let him fail so would take him out often and praise often. Dogs don't really know that they're doing anything wrong... they simply don't understand. Shocking will do nothing but cause confusion, fear, and possibly hiding it in locations that you cannot see. Not to mention, being terrified to walk around at all in your home for fear of being zapped. Check out http://youtube.com/user/zakgeorge21 |
Another vote for baby gate here. I had issues with Zoey's potty training and both mine are still not allowed upstairs so I bought a baby gate from Baby's R Us (less than $20 I think) and put it at the bottom of the stairs. Does the trick. |
Thank you for all your suggestions. |
I too would use a gate until your kiddo is fully trained. Once trained, you could probably take the gate down. Hopefully! Btw, have you checked out our training forum? We have some good info in there on potty training. |
