Instructions for staff at boarding facility
 
Hi there,

I'm writing a note for the staff at the boarding facility. Since I don't board my dogs often, the staff doesn't really know my girls and I want to jot down some key points that they should be aware of, especially when the night shift people show up and they are different from the day shift people who I speak to in person.

Livie has a collapsed trachea - or tendency for it to collapse (I don't know the correct terminology). It has collapsed twice in the last 1.5 years (she is 10 years old). We went to the vet both times and she was put in an oxygen chamber and given some meds. both times, she started drinking a ton of water, coughing, and throwing up - that's what alerted me to run her to the vet.

What kind of instructions do you guys usually give to your boarding staff for things like this? For example, I'm going to ask them to never put anything around her neck (leash, collar, etc.). What else should I say?

Besides symptoms of the CT, I'd give instructions on whether she can play w/ other dogs, what to give for treats (and when to take them away, if chews), whether they need to re-do a top knot, stuff like that maybe...?

That's good. Maybe a print out with the symptoms for CT so that they know it when they see it.

I board with my Vet but I still write detail instructions for everything.

1. How much food and what food when
2. When to give snacks (she needs to earn them)
3. Commands she knows, asking them to use them
4. I write an inventory of what she takes with her(blanket, toys)
5. I leave my contact information and the hotels
6. I leave permission of who can pick her up other than me (in case of emergency).
7. I take off her collar and bring it with me (so they cannot walk her with it)
8. I have a special boarding harness she wears while there, it has tags with their name and number along with a tag with mine.
My Vet's reception has finally told me it not necessary after almost 6 years of boarding but guess what I stll do it.

I LOVE the idea of taking her collar with you AND the harness with a tag for them and a tag for yourself as contacts. GREAT tips!
