My 8th Month old might be in heat a 2nd time She went into heat (aka season) a week before her 6th month birthday, when she was scheduled for her surgery. Just over 2 months later she is bleeding vaginally again. It was just a little. I took her to the Vet. She said it might be her hormones or she might be having another cycle. Is it normal for a Yorkie to be this fertile? :D For those of you wondering why she has not be spayed yet. I have not been able to do so. I live in the UK and my vet scheduled her surgery half way through her next cycle. So essentially three months after her first heat, which is a month away. Scheduling surgery half way through her next cycle is suppose to be safer because she will be less hormonal. Thanks in advance any advice or information you can offer. |
Just wanted to say hi and WELCOME to YT! I hope your kiddo's eventual spay goes well :). |
She might have something called a split heat. It is not normal for females to cycle that quickly. Here in North America we usually wait only 6wks after heat to spay. I hope that soon you will be able to go ahead and spay her. |
Thanks all. I'm waiting to speak with my Vet on Monday to see what our next steps are. I hope she can get her surgery as soon as this cycle ends. |

Can't add to what other posters have said about the heat cycle. I'm also from the UK and read online about studies that show it's best for the bitch to wait 3 mths after the cycle before being spayed. Pippi's having her first season right now, we'll wait the 3 mths, then have her done too. Hope all goes well for Piper. Apart from the season, does she seem her usual self? |
Just goggled this, there are quite a few sites about waiting 3 mths, but thought you might find this interesting. Neutering Your Dog | Castration | Spaying | Puppy | Holly House Veterinary Hospital "ideally we will wait 3 months following a season to spay a dog as there are increased surgical and hormonal risks if spayed too soon after a season." "Transient false pregnancy can occur in some bitches shortly after spaying, especially in older bitches. This is more likely if spayed within 3 months of a season. It is easily treated." |
