Gunner hates the tv loud. He finally got used to that, now he hates storms and gun shots. |
Noises Yes, storms, fireworks and gunshots make my boy crazy too. There is one TV ad that has a firework in it and he hates that too. I don't know where he got this fear from as I did not adopt him until he was over a year old. Also I swear he can hear a TV dog bark even when the TV sound is muted!! It comes to something when we have to tailor our music to their tastes, LOL! I wonder if it depends on their experiences or if the sound sensitivity is inborn? Interesting to read all your views. |
Gizmo was afraid of the TV when we first came home which lasted about a week. Now every once in a while he'll hear a sound and bark at the TV. |
Depending on how you have your settings, I can see how it could affect a dog. If you have your bass set low or high (I don't know music but I hear it when the kids drive by coming from their cars) I can see how the vibration it causes could make a dog shake much like they do in a thunderstorm. Not sure that's what it is, but it's not just their ears that are sensitive, I think their whole sensory system is that much more sensitive than ours. Then depending on how the music bounces around in your house, yeah, it can make them shake/scared. My Dh watches a stupid sport fishing show that beeps occasionally and that makes my dogs start shaking and panting. It's barely noticeable, but they never miss it. |
I consider myself to be very lucky, Yazmin doesn't seem to be bothered by any type of music or loud sounds. I truly thought she might be frightened of my 7 speaker surround sound system when she was a puppy but she enjoys hearing dogs barking on TV in stereo! Lol My heart really goes out to the pups that are terrified of thunderstorms, fireworks, etc. :( If you're interested in music just for your little guy, I highly recommend the CD's, Through A Dog's Ear. Yazmin once suffered from separation anxiety after I returned to work last year and I found this music to be extremely comforting to her! I still put the CD's on before I leave to go anywhere and she's now fine with being left alone. Through a Dog's Ear - Using music and sound to improve the lives of dogs...*and*their people! |
