6 Month old yorkie is 11lbs! Hi everyone! I took my 6 month old puppy to the vet today and he's weighing in at 10.8/11 lbs. He squirmed a lot on the scale so the exact weight was not possible to get. I've read average weight is 6-8 lbs so this worried me that maybe the breeder lied and he's not 100% yorkie. The vet said she could still feel his ribs so he's not overweight. He is not neutered (yet) and he eats Wellness puppy food. I've always had large breed dogs so he still looks tiny to me! I love him dearly and I'm actually a little relieved. He's a happy, healthy boy but growing out of his bed and carrier! Any ideas of how big he'll get?? Does anyone else have any above average sized yorkies? |
You have a teapot! Post some pics and we can let you know if we "think" he is purebred or not! There are a lot of members here who have big Yorkie babies! And welcome to Yt! |
The standard is not to exceed 7 pounds. There are many many yorkies here over standard including my 17 pounder! Just because there bigger does not mean there not pure. Does he have papers? |
My last girl was a beautiful 17 lbs, sleek beautiful body, AKC . Big is better, my new adopted boy is 12 lbs. If you were looking for a 5 lb or under I am sorry that is not what you got, have no fear with a larger yorkie, they are awesome. |
I haven't seen a "teapot", but I meet a lot of people who tell me that they have a 15 pound Yorkie. My Maggie is pushing eight pounds...she doesn't eat that much, she used to eat a lot but not so much lately. Enjoy him, I bet you go on some great walks! |
Both of mine are 11lbs each and 100% yorkie. I suggest you apply for The Teapot Club. :D. Several people here are members. Maybe some one here can provide the link to apply. I believe Mike's criteria for application is: Name of puppy DOB Weight And a current picture. |
Jezebel weighed in at a whopping 9 lbs on her 6 month birthday. The growth charts estimated at that point that her adult weight should end up at 20% more, or 10.8 lbs. She topped out at a lean 16 lbs. She never has cared for rules, lol. Chuy also topped out at 16 lbs, but I didn't get him until he was just over a year old and at that time he was about 12 lbs but he was much too thin -- his hip bones were sticking out. |
My Willow weighed 4.4 lbs at 12 wks, we take her back to the vet next week and she will 16 wks, kind of excited to see what her weight will be. I still keep food in her dish at all times and she does well with eating a little bit at a time. I will love her even if she ends up being larger than normal. I am larger than normal too ;) |
My Prada is 6lbs at just five months...she gonna be a big girl. Breeder told me she would be between 3-5lbs...lol...yeah right |
:D I was told 3-5 also, haha |
Jumbo My Sophie is 4 1/2 months and 8lbs. Her mom is only 5lbs but her dad is 14; guess she is going to be more like her dad. I look at it like less chance of breaking legs from jumping, etc. She does not look like an 8lb dog, but she is long for a Yorkie. I have a 6mth old Malti-tzu that is 10lbs so I am hoping they are around the same size. |
Okay I wanted to update on Willow, she will be 17 wks old tomorrow and she weighs 7.2 lbs |
My boy is 16 pounds and I love his size! He's strong and sturdy and I don't have to worry about breaking him :D |
