Warning!!!! 1 Attachment(s) I hope this posts correctly. |
Just recently I was looking to replace some plants we have in our front yard and the one I was looking at said it was toxic to dogs. I started looking at other plants and every single one I looked at also said toxic to dogs. There are A LOT of very common/popular plants that are very toxic to our furbabies. I decided instead of finding one that was non toxic and could live in shady areas (nearly impossible), I knew I would have to make sure Lexi never got near the plants. |
:cry:I'm soooo sorry for the loss of your beloved Goldie :littleang RIP:angelyork I want to thank you for reaching out to warn others about this tragedy during your time of loss. God Bless you. Pattee, mama to JAX:yorkieboy: and "KLOEE":rbyorkie:RIP |
Here is a good site that you can look for toxic and nontoxic plants. Toxic and Non-Toxic Plants | ASPCA |
I should clarify, this was not my dog. It belonged to a friend. |
Very sad. Good warning. Heliotrope is a common plant. I learned here how toxic azaleas are to our doggies. Our front planters are lined with azaleas. I just assume every plant is toxic and do not let my boys eat anything. |
Please send your friend my heart felt sympathy over the loss of her beloved Goldie:littleangRIP I just put a new thread out, first time, in hopes it reaches more people. I found four from the list in my backyard, they have since been dug out. Toxic and Non-Toxic Plant List - Dogs | ASPCA Pattee, mama to JAX:animal37 and "KLOEE":angelyorkRIP |
It's crazy how many plants are toxic to dogs. I just want a small, empty backyard. |
Thanks for the information |

First thing that came up when I googled the image was this article in Snopes: snopes.com: Heliotrope Warning According to this the plant only causes liver failure to horses, so I dunno if the same symptoms could show up in a dog. IIRC there are plants deadly to cats but not dogs, and vice versa. Quote:

Oh how sad :( I'm afraid I only knew because I keep goats as I have always loves heliotrope. It smells delicious, I am not surprised their beloved pup wanted to eat some. Lilah has a safe fenced space with no plant access and is only outside that space under my direct supervision - we have an irresponsibly kept loose neighbor dog, the road is neve far enough away for those fast little legs and that valiant terrier spirit is hard to trust a consistent recall on if she really feels what she is doing is right... So sad for little Goldie and her family. Amazing what these little guys can get into. |
Sadly FB and the net have become a SPAM and BS dumping depot. I would take caution with any plant etc. |
