My yorkie refuses to get along with my new puppy We just got a 7 week old german shepherd puppy who is the same size as our yorkie who is 3. Our yorkie makes a rabid dog sound and barks whenever the shepherd tries to socialize with him. They're both boys and when we first brought the shepherd home our yorkie was all over him and now he hates him. They don't constantly bark at each other but only the yorkie barks when the shepherd tries to socialize with him. Our yorkie has only socialized with about 3 other dogs |
it is going to take time and your yorkie may go through different stages before finally bonding. I would just break up anything out of control otherwise let them figure it out. it took my yorkie about three months before she would let the baby (Keylo) near her especially laying down and such. |
Ok it's just that this is the first time we've had 2 dogs at the same time living together so we'll see how it goes. Our yorkie is typically hard to socialize with other dogs anyways because it probably was the fact that he lives alone and we didn't know many people with smaller dogs. |
I would like to say to keep your Yorkie alpha. He gets taken out first, fed first, gets treats first. Also have each sit or something before getting food or treats. I have done this with Bentley when I got his brother Baxter, my Boxer. It's a pack mentality that you as owner are the alpha, then your Yorkie and then your shepherd. By the way I also had German Shepherds and they are really great dogs! :) |

I have an 8 month yorkie. He shares his home with a 15 year old Wheaten and an 11 year old cat.All get along but the yorkie hates to share. He has gone to puppy schooland socials. He likes other dogs. Because our whesten is older and has health issues we were thinking of getting a 4 month old yorkie that adores his breeder. This little 4 month old is a mal andour 8 month old is a male. Will 2 same sexes be trouble?Would it be better to have a girl and boy? Thank you |
