spayed My yorkie is going to get spayed the 11th of this month and I am worried to death. She is soooo active and ornery that I don't know how I am going to keep her from running and jumping after the surgery. She will be 10 months old.:confused: Any ideas. PLEASE HELP |
I totally understand your fears, it's always scary to have them go under and have surgery. As far as activity, you can use things to fence off areas for her once she arrives back home so she can't run / have a lot of activity. Most likely, she will not feel like doing much the first few days - but they do snap back remarkably fast too! Have some chews on hand to keep her busy/occupied. And if you leave her alone/leave the house - just make sure you have her cordoned off to a smaller area. |
spay I was told to buy a cone for her head so she wouldn't try to bite stitches and I don't want to do that. She is our baby and very spoiled. I have a crate that she sleeps in when she wants to, but have never locked her in it. I know I'm bad. She mostly sleeps with me, but when she needs to go potty she will jump off bed and its pretty high. This baby is going to be the death of me. I am sooo scared. I lost 2 shelties within 5 months. One 12 years old and the other one 8 1/2 due to a stroke so yel I'm scared and worried. |
Cookie is the same. She was pretty low activity for the first 4 days, but was bouncing off the walls the next 10 when I had to keep her confined to my bedroom where she couldn't jump on things as well as having her on a leash for potty trips. She was so excited to get those stitches out finally. It absolutely drove her nuts not being able to go out and chase squirrels, and she let me know constantly! Haha. The time went by so slowly. |

That's what we use for our bed so they can get up/down safely. My kiddos didn't bother their stitches at all, so I never bought a cone. You can get soft cones now that are padded and less awful than the regular ones. You can also buy a newborn "onesie" and put that on there after the spay to hide/protect the stitches from herself. Try not to worry too much, but I know it's natural. She will do just GREAT! :) |
2 Attachment(s) Get her an inflatable e-collar. Gizmo hated the cone but didn't seem to mind the inflatable e-collar. He was able to play and eat with no problem. He even had a semi-permanent pillow! I bought his at Petsmart. |
Oh my goodness, thank you so much for your input. I sure appreciate it. I have doggie stairs but she won't have anything to do with them. I work and have the greatest bosses in the world and he just told me I could bring her to work with me if I felt it necessary or would help me. My husband is home all day, but you know how men are, might get busy cutting the grass or whatever and not watch her close enough. I might get one of those collars and try that.
