Leaving puppy for 2 weeks We will be leaving for Turkey next week to visit my Husbands family. As the trip gets closer I'm getting worried about leaving him. I'm sure my son will take good care of him .... but I still worry. My husband was saying we could see him on Skype but with the time difference and my son's work schedule I don't think that will work. (except maybe on the weekend) I just worry about how Boncuk will adjust to us being gone. My son will stay at my house and is there almost every afternoon anyways so Boncuk is used to him. Are there things I can do to make this time less stressful for him? Has anyone left there dogs for weeks? How did the dog act when you got back? I don't want him to be sad because we left him or mad at us for leaving... |
With my previous yorkie I traveled for work more often than I do now. So I would leave home for 1 week every month. My daughter was home and my yorkie with our nanny. I think it worked out. Routine was the same, I just wasn't there so I think Boncuk should be fine. |
I don't think you'll have any problems. We picked up our new pup mid last June and went on vacation in early August for about two weeks. We left her with her breeder. When we picked her up, she knew us immediately and when we got home, within 30 minutes, it was if we never left! |
Dogs don't have a sense of time passed. Ten minutes or two weeks they don't know the difference. Just make sure they keep up their appetites and provide treats and walks to tire them out if they get stressed. It will be fine |
I know how tough it is to leave your furbaby behind. I absolutely hate leaving my babies and I miss them SO much if I'm away....as a result, we rarely vacation without them. I'm sure your kiddo will do great - especially bc he'll be with family, who will love him and take care of him like you would. Plus, it sounds like his schedule will allow him ample time with Boncuk, which is wonderful. I'd try to leave behind things that smell like you, like a scarf or bed shirt or shirt etcetera - that's always nice for a dog since they're so smell-focused. Also, make sure your son knows where your vet is AND where the nearest emergency 24-hr vet is located as well; leave directions if he will need them. I always make sure they know where our "emergency dog supplies" are too - things like benadryl (in case of stings or whatnot), an empty syringe (for forcing water), nutrical, tummy meds, etcetera....just whatever you use/have for your own kit. |
