Yorkie/Chi peeing on side of couch and wall I have 2 Yorkie/Chihuahuas...one is a little over a year old and the other 8 months old...The 1 year has been really good..Up until about 3 weeks ago he started lifting his leg on the side of my leather couch and now the walls.I still am having a few problems with the 8 month old but he is getting better Now they are both lifting their legs on the couch etc......Grrrrr We have had other dogs here and I suspect they are marking their territory somewhat...We walk them all the time so it isn't because they aren't being let out...Others have told us this would not happen if they were neutered..We are reluctant to do that..just don't want to put them out for any length of time...plus it is expensive... 1. What can I use to get the urine smell out of my leather couch? 2.will they ever stop doing this...It is very frustrating and I am tired of mopping my floors etc to get rid of the ammonia smell. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! |
I would get them neutered it will help that. There are lots of non neutered dogs who will smell a female in heat a long way away and get hurt or killed trying to get to the female. Your dogs are also more likely to get into fights with each other. Yorkies are also a highly stolen breed and worth even more not fixed and could be sold to a puppy mill or byb. It's not as detailed as a spay they normally bounce back pretty quick. |
After all these years, I have found that the great majority of males will NOT lift their legs to "mark" if you have the neutered BEFORE the hormones start to flow.....usually around 8 months old. Once they get into the habit of marking, it is more difficult to break. If you do not intend to neuter and you are keeping studs in your home, belly bands are a must. I purchased these little fire hydrants that stand about 22 inches high. I have "incorporated" these fire hydrants in my sun room decor, on the pee pads that I have placed around the rooms where my dogs are allowed. That seems to make the boys happy.....they hike their legs on the hydrants, even though they all wear belly bands! For an enzyme buster that kills the scent of urine that has already been deposited on floors or furniture, Natures Miracle works well for me. I have not got the wall issue, but if left without their belly bands, they will mark furniture legs. |
Bummer that they're marking your couch, ugh. You could try an enzyme cleaner, but I'd also block off their access from the area for a good while too, so they get out of the habit of peeing there all the time. Best of luck! |
