Yorkie's playing in a hot tub/jacuzzi I did a search and nothing came up so I was a bit surprised that nobody has ever brought up the subject of hot tubs/jacuzzi with dogs. Has anyone put their Yorkie in a hot tub. We're getting one and I would love to ours in it with me. We're getting one next week & I plan on letting them in with us. I think they will love it & I won't have to worry about getting a life vest them being so close to us. I hope it will be ok cause I know they will love it, plus I mean if we humans can tolerate the warm water so can they right? And there those monkeys that spend the whole day in those natural hot springs. :yay_jump: |
I know that during pregnancy you are not allowed in the hot tub because the heat can damage your growing baby. I think it would really depend on the temperature it was set to and then the managment techniques you used (like broming salts vs the more standard chemicals). The idea itself sounds fun, I wish my girl liked water more! :yorkieg: |
It all depends on the temperature. I don't like it super hot, somewhere between 95-98 is all, and I do take my pups in for a dip and swimming lessons when it's 95 or less. I would never take them in hotter as I don't even like that myself. |
I asked my vet about this and he said Yorkies should never be allowed in hot tubs. Water that feels comfortable to us would be much too hot for a Yorkie -- they would have skin burns and could have a heat stroke and die. There are chemicals in the water that would harm their skin. Their hair could get caught in the drain and cause them to drown. They are too little to be able to stand and would have no way of getting out. The churning water is much too strong for a small dog and would just aggravate all the previously mentioned problems and could prevent anyone from realizing their dogs are in trouble. Please don't put your sweet little baby at risk. You would never forgive yourself. |
I would worry about it being to hot for them and it's not like they can say yo wait a minute that hurts. |

Please listen to the sound advice you were given here and don't do it. The risks outweigh any delight you may have about them enjoying it with you. A kiddie pool as was suggested with just plain tap water sounds like a lot of fun for you and your baby. |
Hot tubs would be fine, so long as you keep the water below 90, I would think. Our pool can sometimes reach nearly 90 degrees on REALLY hot and humid summer days, and Jackson still swims. He also swims in 65 degree water though too :p He's crazy.... But yeah I've been in the hot tub when it's 95+ and I wouldn't want Jackson in it. |
I would never let my two in our hot tub, but we keep it hot. I know when I bathe them, I only use lukewarm water... I think any hotter would be too hot! |
We have a hot tub and I would never let mine in it, the swimming pool is one thing but not the hot tub. I don't think they would like the hot temperature even though I like the pool water to be warm. The pool is bigger and the water doesn't feel as hot as the hot tub water. Plus all of bubbling water, I don't think mine would like it, however, they do love the swimming pool. I don't know how the steps in your hot tub are, but I don't think mine can get out on their own, they can get out of the swimming pool on their own. My first little girl Yorkie fell into the hot tub while we were at work, she didn't make it. It was our fault, we did not have a fence around the pool, we got one after that. Too late for my precious girl... |
