Ways to cool your pups.... So...this is the first really hot weekend here(currently 83) and my AC sucks to the point where it's not even worth the electric bill to turn it on. I've already shaved Prince, but Ricky is in full coat and he is panting up a storm and I am starting to feel guilty. I put a fan out for them to lay in front of...I made sure they've got cold water to sip on.....what else can I do to cool them down?? I am thinking about giving Ricky a summer cut....but it's taken me a year to grow out his big, beautiful coat and I'd hate to see it go. On the other hand, he's not a show dog....so having him in a full coat is not necessary...I just like it. What do you do to keep your munchkins cool and comfortable in the summer?? |
1 Attachment(s) My house seems to stay fairly cool compared to my last house. I have a gel cooling mat that ZoE will sometimes lay on, but she prefers for me to leave the bathroom door open so she can lay on the marble tiled floor. I buy some marble tiles for him to lay on. Or you could prolly get a solid piece of marble pretty cheap from a kitchen countertop fabricator near you..you know the pieces from cut outs like sinks an cooktops. |

I agree with Karan, a cool floor to lie on is a great idea. My boys like to lie on the kitchen floor after getting hot outdoors. Is it your central air that is not cooling the house enough? You could put a window unit in one room to use on days it is hot. |
Bubba and sissy have a small plastic kiddie pool that I fill with water in the hot summer months. They love rolling around in it and running through it. |
When Mimi had floor length hair, I used to shave her underbelly, all the way up to her chest. Looking @ her, you couldn't tell that she was nekkid down there. I tied her side hairs like a curtain to let the breeze in loll. She would lie down on the cool tile floor in the kitchen to cool off. |
