Natural length hair or trimmed? We're looking for advice on whether to give our new little guy a haircut or let it grown natural. We prefer not to cut it, what do the majority of you do? How long does it grow? Any problems with long hair? Levi is 7 months old, waiting for his hair over his eyes to get long enough to pin up. What's the best clip to use, his hair is so soft and fine. |
Hi and WELCOME to YT :)! I do a variety of things. Our Wylie is a total wild man and his personality is suited to a puppy / short cut, it's just his "look". Marcel is in full coat. Our girl, Pfeiffer, has a long really FULL body coat, but I trim her face a bit (she refuses to wear a topknot!). Longer hair is def more maintenance bc of mats/tangles - and it also depends on your kiddo's actual texture too bc some mat up easier than others. |
I dreaded that first puppy haircut for Joni - wanted to keep the puppy look! But honestly, her hair grows so fast, just like people hair. I'm not sure yet exactly which coat she has, but it seems silky. I doubt I'll ever shave her, but she'll need a close clip for the hot summer. If your little one's hair grows this fast, you'll find that 2-3 weeks after a groom you are practically back to where you started. |
2 Attachment(s) I love Callie's hair and would love to grow it out but she just doesn't have the personality for it. She is a wild one and loves to roll in the grass, on her blankets and get into everything. She also wears clothes most of the time and is very used to that and clothes would tangle long hair. This is a recent picture of Callie in a puppy cut. |
Personally, I love a long haired yorkie in full coat. It's so stunning! Unfortunately, no matter what I did to ZoE's hair, it was just slow growing and broke off easily. I think, regardless of quality products used, it comes down to genetics. I say if you can grow a full coat, do it! At least give it a try. ZoE is now three and just a few weeks ago, she received her first full summer haircut. She seems to like it, and it is definitely a lot easier for me to take care with her constantly jumping in and out of her paddling pool all day. |
Everyone has their preference. One of the reasons I fell on love with the breed was their full coats. It takes more time. You have to brush it everyday 1-3 times day. Depends on coat. I wash every week to 10 days with shampoo and conditioner. Then blow dry. |
I too fell in love with the full coat on a Yorkie, Winston's is very manageable. He gets groomed every 2 weeks or so yet never has that just groomed look. He always looks the same. I think some of the shorter cuts are adorable, but for me and my guy I prefer the traditional Yorkie look with a full coat. I just wish he'd leave a top knot in but he just won't, he's all boy after all. |
Thanks to all that posted, I'm going to go for the full lengh hair and see how it works out. We're retired so have the time to keep him brushed. What's the best brushes to use? |
