Barking question! Twinkie is 4months old and I am enjoying the fact that she is quiet. I was just wondering when should I expect her to start barking. When did your babies start barking? |
Barking I am no expert but all the puppies I have ever seen have barked long before they left the breeder. Is she just very well behaved and doesn't bark much or have you really never heard her bark? Maybe someone elso on here will chime in but I might ask your vet and see if there is something he/she can check to make sure there isn't something preventing her from barking. If she is just fine all the way around and healthy I wouldn't worry too much but still ask your vet. Mine bark everytime they hear someone come to the door or they are trying get my attention - like when I am on the computer! :) |
Becareful for what you wish for.... When Homer was younger he didnt bark. I mean NEVER, then he went and stayed the weekend at my bestfriends house who also has a Yorkie... All her baby ever seemed to do was bark... By Monday morning when I picked him up he had become VERY vocal. It has taken me 6 months to simmer his barking down. He stops for the most part after I say "NO BARK". He will only obey my command now. Its sooo cute at first... then it turns to out of control. Homer used to bark at his food, the mailman, a tree, the dryer anything and everything! Homer was about 4 1/2 to 5 months when he started barking. Best of luck to you and your pup! |
When my dogs were younger they never barked. Now they really bark. I think they started about 5 months. |
When did my Yorkies start to bark?? Fresh out of the womb. When there are several Yorkies they tend to feed off each other and one of them can find something to bark at all the time. |
Why would anyone take a dog to the vet because it doesn't bark????? I can see mentioning it to the vet if you need to go in for some other reason - shots or something. (My vet is not going to get paid for a visit because my dog doesn't bark.) This is a good question for YT --not for a trip to the vet. I have a Bichon that didn't bark until he heard another dog bark (when he was almost six months old.) And, he hasn't ever barked much since then. Also, I've had him for four years and have heard him growl only once. He's just a laid back, quiet, but very playful dog. My Yorkie can bark - and does occasionally - but not often. He will go several days without barking at all - and then for some reason bark five or six times at a house plant. Hope he stays this way!! Carol Jean |
Barking That is what I meant - to ask - as in calling or when you go for another reason. I didn't mean make a special trip. I had a friend who had a dog with a growth on its vocal cords and it affected the bark, that's also why I asked if they had ever heard a bark at all however infrequent or if it really was never. I know some are laid back I just have never had the luck of coming across one that was that laid back that they were on the quite side. Mine take pleasure in anything that they think is a reason to bark at. |
I know her vocal cords are not affected since I stepped on her once and she did cry but other than that no barking (yet). Thank you all so much for your feedback. |

Toby was a VERY quiet puppy..... then he got older... he only barks when he is alerting me to something though, otherwise he simply "talks" |
Kiki don't bark alot, unless he hears something strange or playing with us. |

YT wish they had your problem ( not a health issue but no bark issue) Yorkies are known to be little yappers and it would seem unusual. For one whose only barks if she hears someone at the door, I enjoy the quiet. A fire started across the hall one evening and she attached that door with such a spaz attach and barks so loud, I thought she had lost her mind. Some are just more laid back and I hope that is the case for you. |
Snoodles has just started barking---EEK! She was two in January. She has suddenly decided she is TOUGH! Ha! I hope she doesn't turn into a yapper--little brat---! Now when we are ready to go to bed, she jumps off our laps and runs around like a crazy dog yapping and acting tough! Then bites our toes all the way into the bedroom! Silly Dogs! Pat |
oh im sure she will bark soon my rosie barks a lot at the door if she thinks people are there, at me if i ignore her at the cats if they wont play worse of all at night which drives us all mad. if she doesnt bark much i say LUCKY YOU :D |
My girls VERY rarely bark ever. The only time the ever bark is when the start running around really fast trying to catch each other then every once in awhile one of them will bark at the other. I was really surprised bc I have heard that yorkies are very vocal. |
Barkless? A barkless Yorkie? Sounds good to me. I cant remember when Chelsea DID NOT bark. She barks at EVERYTHING. IF her water bowl is empty, she comes and barks at me, if there is noise in the backyard, she stands on the couch, and barks (a real toughie), if the door bell rings, she barks, if the grandfather clock rings, she barks, if dad comes home, she barks, if the phone rings...she barks, until she gets CHEERIOS...WELL, I guess you get the idea! I do have to add, if her bowls are empty, besides barking, she takes them outdoors thru the doggie door. Its like "FINE, you dont pay attention to me, then I will show you"!! Hugs, Chelsea'sMOM :aimeeyork |
Good luck!!!!!!!!! :animal36 Don't you know, Yorkies are wirless security systems. Just ask my family, my neighbors & my friends. Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! :rofl28ib: :rofl28ib: :rofl28ib: just wait, lol I am just playing, actually for me this is true. Yet I do know some of my friends Yorkies are quite. That, though is a small handful |
