Pad training Just got a new 2 year old rescue, Sophie, to be a pal for my Tyrone. I understood from previous owner that she was completely pad trained with never any accidents. She has adjusted really well here with everything but pad training. She has been peeing consistently on the pad, but poo is another matter. She is leaving packages everywhere. I have put pads all over the house wherever she has eliminated, thinking if she poos on one of them, I praise and reward her. Not working lol. Any ideas out there? |
Some dogs are funny about pooping, where they want to do it off to the side somewhere away from where they might pee. You'd probably have to revert back to puppy training mode where you tether them to you or watch like a hawk for when she is going to poop, and then immediately confine her to a pad area. |

Teddy is shy about pooping, but he has learned to deal. I would limit the number of pads to 1 or 2. Having too many targets is confusing. Tether her or limit her freedom to a smallish area with the pad. When she does her business on it, praise her like she performed the best trick ever and give her a reward. |
