Home alone I was wondering if it is ok to leave a yorkie puppy in an exercise pen while working. He would have bed, toys, food, and water. I can put the pen so he can see outside. I really want a puppy, but I do have to work. Any suggestions? |
1 Attachment(s) I work full time and leave my pup home. He is in an exercise pen with a top because he likes to climb. The pen is 4x4 which is big enough for his potty pad, food, water, his bed, toys and playing space. I sometimes am able to get home on lunch to play for a little. Even with working I am able to keep him on a schedule. It's possible to work and own a puppy although some may tell you it's not. I will say it's work. When my kids and I get home he is part of the main focus. I attached a pic of my pups set up. |
Thanks for the picture. I do have a pen that is similar so I really do think it will work. I am so excited and will give him lots of love. I don't work everyday and am home in the summer. |
How many hours would they be left. You would need to make sure the pup is 12 weeks or older. |
Possibly 4-5 hrs, but I might be gone close to 9 hrs on some days. The puppy would be 14-16 weeks. My husband may be home some while I am gone. |
If it's 9 hours I would hire a pet sitter to come over in the middle of that to check on the pup and play for a few minutes. |
We leave ours in a puppy-proof room when my sister goes to work and she usually sleeps all morning despite having toys to play around. Sometimes I arrive early from school but she still feels like sleeping until 1:00 P.M She sleeps that much because my sister sleeps in that room with her and both go to bed until 1:00 AM. She also gets a 30 min daily walk. |
I had a dog once chew on a large towel until there were some loose, long threads at one end he somehow got wrapped tightly enough around his paw to cut off the circulation! I wouldn't leave that cloth under the pen at all. Just pee pads or things like that. |
Cerulean chews the carpet so the comforter comes in handy. He doesn't chew it as he has other fabric outlets to keep him busy. I could put him in the bathroom but we like him being central to everything going on in the house. |
I am hoping he will get used to the schedule and do great! I want to make sure he bonds with me. I plan on playing and cuddling a lot of the evenings and weekends. My puppy is only a week old. |
