Can you spend too much time with your Yorkie? I have had my puppy for almost a week and she is constantly with me and I am worried she will not be able to be alone when the time comes I cannot be with her. I have been bringing her everywhere, and she stayed in the car when I went to the grocery store, but it will soon be too hot to do that, so I would have to leave her at home. She does sleep in her crate all night fine. But, if I go outside for a couple minutes without her she gate upset. She even comes in the bathroom when I shower. Am I letting her get too attached, any opinions on this topic are appreciated. (She had 3 homes before I found her, so she may be a little insecure. She is 3 mos. old). |

I want to REALLY emphasize how important you NEVER leave your baby in your car, for even a second! Yorkies are #1 or #2 at the top of the list for getting stolen....they will break a window and steal that baby, put it up on Craigs list for a quick, effortless $600.00-$1000.00 profit!!! I also agree with adjusting for time alone while you are out! Just like Vicki advised, no big deal when you leave and increase the time left alone gradually.....it works! |
Here in Tucson, a passerby by can break into your car legally to "Rescue" your dog and PD will then cite you on top of that. |
Crate/pen train, take it slow, be in room constantly first few days and slowly increase times away, starting with minutes. Crate training is handy for your pups entire life, say traveling, sick or injured. If done properly (Never for punishment) your dog will not show any stress, just another day in the neighborhood. Toys, peepad and a stinky T-Shirt, food bowl and water. Put PeePad so dog does not have to walk thru it to get to you and door and same for food and water bowls, put them on the dead side of the crate. |
No mater what the temp its never ok to leave your dog in the car. Its so sad she has had 3 homes already she should not have left her doggy mom until 12 weeks. She will probably just sleep when you leave her that's what most do. |
I just got winnie last night i went to pick up food today and left her in her crate she whined for a bit but once i left she didnt mind i want to let her get used to it for when i start back in school in the fall. dont ever leave her in the car some stole my moms poodle out of her yard when her back was turned if you have to put her in a carrier |
I myself have always left Gizmo in his xpen when I go to my drs appts. And he's never had an issue. I did a test today and blocked off the upstairs, as there is nothing he can get hurt on, or get into in the downstairs. So I let him stay out of his pen today while I went to the drs :-) he was perfect !!! Since he's almost a yr old I figured I would try it and see what he would do. Other than emptying his toy box and playing my house was in perfect order when I got home. He was just sleeping on the back of the couch watching out the window waiting for me when I walked up :-) I totally agree, never ever ever leave your pup in the car for even a second no matter what :-( |

I don't think you can spend too much time with them :D. I try to take my guy everywhere he's allowed and cart him around when doing housework. He also just started sleeping in my bed when the hubs is gone because of work. It actually makes me feel better having him around all of the time. |
