You've been given great advice! This is a great site to learn about the breed, as well as YTCA, and other sources. The more informed you are, the higher likelihood of finding a healthy puppy! |

Would love to see pictures of your new addition. Congratulations!! |
Glad you finally found a puppy. I hope she will be just as loved and I am sure she will even if she exceeds her projected 6 lbs. It really is hard to tell until they are finished growing. I wish you and her worlds of joy together. |

I know you have your heart set on a tiny yorkie they are so cute in the pictures and I wanted one too. They are usually over priced because the breeder is selling them to the highest bidder also they are very fragile and very normal things that a standard size yorkie can do can injure a tiny. My Jewels was supposed to be a tiny and I paid extra because she was supposed to be a tiny and she ended up at 8 lbs even though she was only a tiny 12 oz pup when I brought her home. That happens alot too. Im glad now though that Jewels isnt a tiny and at 8 lbs she is still so small. You dont realize how small a standard size yorkie is untill you have one. So I wouldnt worry about size just find a good breeder and look for a pup that has the personality and looks you want though. Dont look for apple head either that usually means hydrocephalis which is a deadly disease in small pups. But its okay to look for one that has small facial features like a small nose or button eyes. We all have a certain look we prefer. Good luck finding your pet |
https://www.akc.org/breeds/yorkshire...d_standard.cfm Out of curiosity to others, why hasn't AKC added a minimum weight to the standards? Maybe I'm just missing it. New thread on another probably very worn out question! "Weight: Must not exceed seven pounds." why no minimum:confused: |

BTW, it wouldn't be up to the AKC, it's the breed club for each breed that decides what the standard is -- in this case the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America. |
