New Member hi I am a new user so please be patient with me I have a 2 and a half year old male named Rocky He is not spayed I heard today 05/19 that male yorkies have a high risk of testicular cancer is this true my second question is I was thinking of getting Rocky a companion He loves all the kids on my block but he has not had much interaction with other dogs should my second yorkie be a male or female thanks |
Hi and WELCOME to YT :)! Yes, males can have a higher risk of cancer if they're not neutered; they also may mark more. As far as what to get for a 2nd pup - it's totally up to you! I have 2 males and 1 female and love them all. |
welcome to YT, agree, males can have a higher risk of cancer if they're not neutered, neutering may reduce marking. I had 4 females, 2 spayed, 2 not spayed, all got along beautiful. If you get another male they would have to be neutered because they WILL fight for dominancy. Good luck in choosing your next baby. |

Hi and welcome to yt! I would for sure have him neutered. It is a benefit in many ways...especially if your considering a female as you don't want an accidental pregnancy. I would do some meets and greets on neutral ground with other dogs to see how he feels about them. if you bring in a puppy he may bond better but it all depends on his personality. :) |
Welcome to YT! I have a male one year old yorkie and I'll be acquiring a female by August to round out the household we girls are in the minority lol |
