Any ideas for escape artist pup? My puppy is an escape artist so now I don't know how to contain him during the day. In the past week he has escaped from the pen as well as climbed over the gate multiple times. I even went as far as to have the gate and the pen set up as a fail safe...yeah I failed at that. I swear it's like this boy is evolving into some kind of puppy genius. Help please! |
We found a baby gate that has plexiglass instead of the mesh so Waffles couldn't climb over it or chew thru it. If you search on Amazon or Google for NorthStates Supergate Clear Choice Gate it should appear. |
Would this work better for him: Purchase the IRIS 4 Panel Pet Pen at Walmart.com. Save money. Live better. |
No if his feet can fit he's up and out. I ended up getting him a crate and an ex-pen cover so he can still have his space during the day. The cover locks on with clips but I plan on buying extra seeing as how this little guy is a genius. |
Please make sure your escape artist is microchipped and has ID tags in case he escapes from the house. Where I live there are so many lost and found dogs without any ID at all and most of them don't get back home. cry::cry::cry: |
I have seen videos of pups climbing out of pens that did not have a cover. If their feet fit then they are out. Very tenacious little ones. |
:D Our Harry Houdini was an escape artist too, when he was a puppy. He actually learnt how to open the slidey bolt thing on his (huge!!) crate.... If truth be told, I was actually very proud of his ingenuity...:D He could do that, plus climb out of playpens (covered or not) - and if he couldn't climb, then he'd gradually chew his way out.... The only thing that truly worked for us was keeping him shut in our kitchen when we had to leave him - we even had to put a small bolt on 'this side' of the door, as he could jump high enough to push the handle down.... It all stopped once Harry had full-rein of our house....but that, of course, comes with time and age. Not to do with potty-training, but once he was passed the chewing (of wires, etc.) stage - once we 100% trusted him :) It will all sort itself out, good luck! :D |
Why not buy a pen/crate that has a top? |

I'll be getting him micro chipped but he is not able to get out of the house. When we try to let him out he refuses and has to be carried. Matese the look on my face when my kids told me he climbed the gate AND the pen...shocked! I thought about getting a second gate to put on top but figured he'd half kill himself to climb it. I'm praying he doesn't learn to how to get out of the covered pen. |
