Why does my yorkie pee every time he gets in his carrier? I'm not sure whats going on, but when I put him in his carrier he pees in it immediately. He didn't do that in the beginning. Weird! |
Is he nervous when gets in the carrier or does he like riding in it? Does he associate the carrier with going good places, or only less desirable trips like the groomer or vet? Is he possibly marking the carrier? |
Do you place him in it or tell him and he goes in it without hesitation. Is it thoroughly washed afterward so no trace of pee smell? |
Like Maximo wondered...is he scared of it possibly? |
Hummmm.... You have me wondering about this whole thing. You're right. How can I break him out of this habit? I bought some puppy diapers just in case. |
No he always hesitates to go inside. i have to force him inside. When he's in there he doesn't cry though. He automatically pees in there. I wash it every time he does it. |
He might be. I'm not sure why though. smh |
I think he's scared, because he's going to the vet. smh Poor baby. |
Leave carrier open in play area so he's used to it being there, over time move treats closer, then inside. Make it a play area, tug a war inside with toys or something. You should be able to open door, point/command and pup should go in without hesitation. Forcing brings fear, it will take awhile to break the bad reaction, but love and patience will win. Your goal should be to get your pup to trust you no matter what, even going to Vet should be OK. I used to say "Gonna Fix You" when dog was sick or getting shots, after time they understand it might not be nice but they will feel better. |
Good idea. I love that idea. I will try that. Wish me luck. lol |

I also agree about the vet. Work on making that a positive experience. Talk to him during the trip. These little ones are so smart and pick up words and phrases and their meaning. I always tell my guys, "Going to see the doctor. He is going to make you better, and then we are going to go home and lunch with your brother and grandpa." Praise helps too. Good luck! |
Yup, soft blanket is a must. We picked up Ginger Sat night about 3 hours from here, she whined for about 5 minutes and slept the whole trip. Left the carrier open on floor at opposite side of room. I throw her favorite ball in the carrier once in a while and now she will go in and out when ever she's on that side of the room now. |
I will definitely do that. He will be wearing a diaper though just in case. lol |
Awww how cute. I will keep that in mind. Thank you. |
Ginger is using the Pee Pad by the back door as much as possible today, a few more days and I'll try leaving the crate door open. She even cries when in the crate and needs to poop, I open it and she flies to the other pad. As for the carrier, she has no problem with it at all, I hide different toys in it and she's proud as heck when she finds them, bringing them to us to play. Its funny, I never knew about hyperglycemia with my last Yorkie, ran the heck out of her. With Ginger I throw her in the crate once in awhile just in case, she just loves to fly around the house. Be fun when her shots are done and she can go outside, look out lizards, lol |
