Crying and vomiting...ugh
 

For some reason Cerulean can be in his crate at night with no crying whatsoever but when I put him in his room or pen he cries. Yesterday and this morning he cried so hard he threw up. I have a camera set up so I can see him during the day and he cried for at least an hour after my son left for school. When I came home his ex-pen was moved all over the place, he had thrown up and kibble was everywhere! I also think coming home on lunch makes it worse for him because he starts all over again. If I could afford a pet sitter I'd get one but in the mean time I'm just stressed about my baby.

At night, he is probably content to be in his crate because he is near his humans and it is time to sleep.

During the day, puppies want to be active and have attention. Sounds like he is suffering separation anxiety. You could try giving him a tshirt you have worn, safe toys, and a DAP diffuser (calming pheromones). Try leaving a tv or radio on in his room at a pleasant volume.

Make sure he has plenty of activity in the evening and weekends when you are home with him.

Does he have things like kongs, to eat his food from ?

Caleb at times eats fast, putting his food in a Kong or other similar toys (he has several types), slows him down. He either refuses to eat or eats fast when stressed...then chokes and throws it up. Kongs slow his eating down and give him something else to focus on.

P.S Also does you son make a fuss of him and say goodbye before he leaves? This can make it worse. Ignoring him for a little while before leaving, and just walking out, can lessen the stress for some dogs.

You pup is not even 12 weeks old? He is still a very young baby. You are doing very well just with him being alone at night and not crying. He has to be alone all day and that is very rough on such a young baby that would ordinarily still be with it's litter mates.

I don't know a solution to your problem other than having someone come in to spend time with him. He needs a lot of socialization and is not getting much right now.

I believe he is 12 weeks old.

The end of next week he will be 12 weeks according to the birth date listed by the owner.

I just got him Saturday and he is 11 weeks old. The breeder sends her yorkies home between 10-12 weeks when she's confident they are socialized and ready to go. If they need to stay longer she does, two of his sisters are still there. I feel bad that he has to be home during the day but I have to work and if I waited until I was unemployed to get a dog I'd never get one. Oddsock I tried the Kong yesterday and once he couldn't get anymore out of it he just ignored it. He's a tiny one so I can't use the wobble feeder either. He has a blanket of mine which he loves and a toy that still smells like his litter which he also loves. He's not crated but is penned in my half bath downstairs which I personally think is too much space for him. As far as my son, I'm sure that's the case and I talked to all of my kids this morning to let them know they either needed to walk out the door and ignore Cerulean or go out the back if that would be a problem. They fussed because they think he's a puppy and I'm being hard on him...yeah so they'll be reading a puppy training book the minute they get home. I've been doing alot of research on separation anxiety since last night and have found some useful tips but they'll only work if the kids are consistent as well. Cerulean might not like the change but in the end it's all for his good.
