Questions on registering micro chip Hello YT Friends, I will be having my precious Mia spayed and micro chipped next week. My question is that I have been told that there might be a annual fee where you register your micro chip. Doing some searching online about this issue I came across many sites for registering your micro chip, some free, some annual fees, some a one time fee etc. Many of these sites will take any brand of micro chip for registration. As of now I don't know what brand my vet will use,but I guess my question is when I register with my micro chip company should I also register with others? I am so confused about this matter and of course I want the best for my Mia,just in case she would ever need to find her way home! |
Good question! I need info on that, too. |

Thank you |
Correct. The microchip needs to be registered with the company that produced it ONCE. There is a one time fee. You should be sent all the registering info after the chip is implanted. You pay the vet a fee for placing the chip and the microchip all at the same time. When you go online to put your info in there should be no further fees to pay. |
This thread came at a perfect timing, a few days ago I received an email stating it was time to renew Cody's membership????? I was under the impression micro chipping was a one shot deal. I had not read the email, just knew I better get on it and re-regester him, I see this posting, I say "what the hey" if it's is a one time registration then why has Cody's expired. Now I read that e-mail, and for $17.99 per year this is what you get CODY’s annual membership in the HomeAgain Pet Recovery Service expired. For only $17.99, you can reactivate CODY’s annual membership and rest assured that CODY is protected with a comprehensive package of safety and wellness coverage. http://petid.homeagain.com/renewals/...9248632901.gif http://petid.homeagain.com/renewals/...1719955197.gif http://petid.homeagain.com/renewals/...9248632901.gif Help With Your Search – Call our Lost Pet Specialists whenever your pet goes missing—24/7! In a nut shell micro chipping is a one time fee, annual fee's are for the added, extra benefits you would receive. You decide if you want the added protection. I get several emails a week on lost pets. Is it worth the extra $18.00 for this? your decision |

Ours is through PetLink and we had it done over 3 years ago. She is still registered and active on the website. I check it now and then but we don't have to do anything to keep it active. |
Petlink and home again you register once for life. |

You register and it's free. The only time there is a charge is IF you want to pay for their "extra" services, which I never do. |
Thank You All for your responses,I feel more prepared for this part of our yorkie adventure! Mia is our first yorkie and what a pistol she is when we were use to our dear Max of 12 years. How I miss him,but our little Mia helps to fill that void in our hearts. She is getting groomed today and good luck to the groomers as they call her Miss Wiggle Butt!! Then she will go have her spay and chip done(possibly teeth pulled if needed)on tuesday. I was going to have her back dew claws removed if possible, but I found the back ones have gone to being jointed with a little pad there as well,so I guess she has 5 toes on her back paws! So they will stay as is and be well cared for. Is this a common thing with yorkies? I really wish the breeder would have removed dew claws at birth, but she said she even hated docking tails. Wish us luck for this Tuesday and many thanks for responses,I Love this forum ! |
