sasha having a response to vet visit howdy everbody....I took sasha to the vet yesterday for a general chk up and shots she got rabies, distemper, and bordella? shots and had blood taken she was fine and acting normal after the visit but when we got home she started acting slow and lethargic and she vomited a little foamy liquid, the vet said to watch her for swelling of the face which she does not have, and keep an eye on her, this morning she is still lethargic and unresponsive like she is very tired, she usually is bouncing all over the place and chasing squirrels this is her first set of shots....should I be worried? go back to the vet?she is 5lbs is that to many shots at once? thanx in advance for any advice |
Has she eaten? Give her some Nutrical or Karo syrup and call your vet immediately!!!! |
I would never give rabies in the presence of any other shots, no matter the age, bc of potential reactions etc. - if there is a reaction, you have no clue as to what shot it came from. Next time you get shots, give her Benadryl 45 mins prior to shots to avoid reactions. I would call your vet again this morning and ask what to do and describe her state. Are her gums pale/white or pink...they should be pink. Is she drinking or eating? |
I ask the vet not to give any other shot if rabies is given for both Magnus and Zoey (15.5 lbs & 5.5 lbs). They've never had any reactions that was noticeable other than the area being bit sore. Did you or the vet gave her benadryl before the shots were given? If she's still shows the signs you've described, I'd say the safest thing is to take her back to the vet or at least call them. I hope she gets better soon! |
Keno is 14 lbs and I never let vet give shots all at once, I break into separate visits, a week apart. Still have to do benadryl before each shot. |
I do all my shots separate and a month apart which works much better for my babies. hoping your sasha is feeling much better. |
I feel horrible to have allowed this pig to have basically shoved this" shot trio bargain of the month" upon the most precious thing in my universe......please forgive my ignorance one and all... as for an update sasha seems to have regained at least part of her normal self....she has eaten and taking water as normal....her gums are a light pink and appear healthy.....she has chased a few squirrels,,,however did not bark which is not the norm all in all I would say she is a 30% improvement from last night but seems very tired if anyone is in the se of mich.....and knows of the very best vet to take sasha to in future.....please advise thank you all for this most helpful advice and kind responses she is sleeping now and I will monitor her closely and update in the am |

sasha is feeling way better today.....she woke up and gave me a big toothy smile and kisses before running out the door to chk for any squirrels..... what a relief....I can only hope this serves as a example of how not to do it for anyone wondering......I know it has for me I have always been untrusting when it comes to vets or anything dealing with lil sashmo....now, even more so..... in his defense....I have dealt with this vet before with one of my cats.....and he was very thurough, going over every enzyme analysis from the blood test line by line with full explanation.....from now on I will go with my gut feelin and advice from experienced folks from this site ,rather than give 100% trust to any vet..... sash and I thank you all |

I’m on the other side of the state from you but I take Boncuk to an animal Hospital because there are not many Yorkies around here. Boncuk had a reaction to his 1st shot at the Vet’s office so she gave him a pill there before we left. But he was quiet and sore for about 24 hours. He wanted to be held but not touched. The vet also gave me some antihistamine pills to give him twice a day 3 days before and after any vaccinations. Plus split all his shots up so he only received one at a time. He didn't have any issues after that. Maybe you should check with your next vet about that. Or other ways to prevent a reaction. |
Know your feelings on this one. Over here so many Vets are just churning mills and don't give a hoot. They must do well as 'customer service' is crassly disregarded and they still keep going! There are good ones, but they take quite a bit of finding, once you get past the inevitable mobile phone on legs, today aka as a receptionist! |
I am in South East Michigan, Monroe County. I use Temperance Animal Hospital in Temperance Michigan and have never been disappointed. Have used for my last 3 dogs, for a total of 25 years. They are a little bit more expensive but I feel they are worth it. |
When Donna Bain gets back from vacation I will ask her who she uses. She lives up North West of Detroit. |
Stevo, I think different vets are good with different animals. For example: We used to go to a married couple and I found that the man was much more diligent with my neighbors cats than he was with my dogs but the woman was great with my dogs. Go figure. |
