Tough love This poor young man is crying his eyes out next to my bed and all I can think about is how badly I want to go back to sleep. I can see why people put their puppies in bed with them but yeah...I like my space. He is making a good case but I think having four kids makes this easier for me. I will say he's doing much better than last night. He went potty faster and as of right now he stopped crying soooo that's my cue...goodnight! |
Good night I hope you get some rest. Welcome to puppyhood |
You are stronger than me. I put Piccolo in bet the first night and she did not move an inch. :) |
I gave up.....twice. |
We put Keno is a small travel crate and put it on the bed every night from night one. When he was about 5 months and house trained we let him sleep on the bed with no crate. I have done that with every dog I have ever owned. And that includes many Large dog breeds also. Only difference was the size of the travel crate. |
Good for you! Blazer sleeps in his travel crate (kennel) every night with no complaints. We had let him sleep in his bed next to our bed for a few months but he would get up and jump in bed with my middle daughter then we installed new carpet so back to his kennel he went. |
Bella sleeps in her travel crate on the night stand overlooking the bed every night and she only wakes us up when she needs to potty. She complained the first couple of nights we had her, but she got used to it quickly, and now she runs to her crate and gets in it when it's bedtime. Things will get better. |
Maggie doesn't like to sleep in bed with us. I think it is because we both move around too much during the night and he works swings, so she doesn't get a good nights sleep. All we have to say is, we are going to bed and she hops in her crate. |

Having a puppy is like a new baby. Make sure the crate is where he can see you and take him potty when he cries but put him right back and after ignoring it for a few days or two weeks like my stubborn puppy was they will see it's not going to get them out. |
Gina has slept in her crate since we brought her home. She likes to take naps in the bed if someone is in it, but she doesn't like to sleep there during the night. When she is ready to go to sleep, she will put her self to bed in her crate, she has food and water, in coop cups, 2 blankets, her dragon and a chewie. This has been her night schedule since day one, and she just turned 1 last week. I'd like her to sleep on the bed, but Gina is her own person and decides what and where she sleeps. My last Yorkie, Megan, slept with us from day one, for 15 years, I miss that, but won't make Gina sleep where she doesn't want to. Cheers Quad & Gina:aimeeyork |
You can't give in. Cookie cried the saddest cry her first night, but I didn't budge even though every ounce of me wanted to just pick up and hold this beautiful pup that I love so much. But she is great sleeping in her cage now, and has been since the second night. There is no way she will ever sleep in bed with me, as when I was a kid our pug got trapped under the blanket with my brother and died when he was sleeping. Just not a chance I'm ever going to take. The guilt he had looked so crushing even though we constantly told him it wasn't his fault and we know how much he loved little Pugs. |
My sister used to sleep on the couch with our pup until a couple of days ago. Now our puppy goes inside of her crate on her own when she gets way too tired of playing. |

Yeah, crying it out with my son was a lot worse than with my puppy. Took only a couple days with the puppy before she stopped crying at night in her crate. I also like my space in bed so I'm happy that she sleeps so well in her crate now. Plus, I would worry and me or my husband rolling on her at night. At 4 months she is usually asleep by 8:30 or 9 and gets up when I do at 7. |
