:aimeeyork, Hi everyone, My name is Carla, I live in Missouri in a rural community. A month ago, my husband was mowing the lawn and out of nowhere came a scraggly little matted rug with burs and other nameless things attached to it, He began following behind my husband , stopping when my hubby stopped and picking up pace when he walked with the mower again, this went on for an hour and it was as if the little matted ball of a dog was a soldier marching in formation. Now I wish I had videotaped it. Anyway they were both hot and tired after all of that work, so I got the hubby a glass of water and got what I realized under all of those mats and burs was a yorkie a bowl of water :) Well this little guy stank of high heaven. and we went inside thinking he might go back home, after 2 hours of him bouncing off of the storm door I said, we need to clean him up, take some pics and put up some posters. I bathed him and put some of my conditioner on him it took me nearly 45 minutes to get out all of the mats and burs. He let me blow dry him and was a perfect gentleman the entire time. He had no collar, no tags and we took him to the local vet, he had no chip. We proceeded to put up posters, put an ad in our little home town paper, looked for other posters kind of hoping , (but not really) that his owners would call. After 3 weeks of no responses we assumed that he was either very far from home, possibly his owner died or someone had to leave him behind or drop him off because they were moving. No phone calls not even anyone trying to pretend that he was their dog. So we are now the proud parents of a 5 lb 6 oz bouncing baby boy Yorkshire Terrier, validated as full blooded by my veterinarian . He is perfect in every way except for an occasional inside potty accident . He sleeps wrapped around my neck like a scarf , he sits on my shoulder in the truck like a parrot to see everything possible, he kisses all day long has been taught to sit, he lays, he heels and he fetches. He dances for treats. Evidently at one time someone loved him very much and I felt bad for keeping him, But my vet said we did the right thing instead of taking him to the animal shelter, who BTW we called everyday to see if anyone had called for a lost Yorkie. On the last day of week 3 we took him to the vet he got his rabies, kennel cough, and 5in1 shot. The next day we took him to a groomer and you have never seen a more handsome young man. He was so proud of himself, bouncing around showing off for everyone there. Now I understand that since he is full blooded, that there is a test that you can get through AKC, a blood test that you send back to them. And they will verify and register him since we don't know who his parents are obviously. He is not neutered but my vet says he is the most excellent looking Yorkie and would be a fine stud. Does anyone know what this test is called, How do I go about getting started with the AKC , how long does it normally take to get back these tests? And is anyone here on the page a stud breeder? I have never bred dogs and haven't a clue as to how to begin. Can anyone help with suggestions?Attached is a pic of him before he was groomed and after his first bath :)

Awww, he is just adorable...and bless your big hearts for saving him from the streets, looking for his owners, and taking him as yours. He sounds like he fits right in.

As for studding, my best advice so that he has the best life is to not do it. Being un-neutered could very well be why he was lost; unaltered male dogs go CRAZY if they smell an in-heat female for miles around and will do anything to get to her, including running away. So, you do risk losing him again. Also, his potty incidents indoors may be because he is marking; neutering *might* help w/ this behavior. So if it were me, I'd neuter...but you have to make the right choice for you. Oh also...prior to breeding any dog, you really should have a Show Breeder evaluate him to see if he really is worthy of breeding/bettering the breed.

And lastly, you have to consider whether you really want to add to the pet population by participating in breeding. Remember, we kill/euthanize 3-4 MILLION PETS every year in the US. So to me, there has to be an incredibly worthy reason to breed any kiddo in this day and age where we kill so many animals :(.

I'm not a breeder. Both of mine are fixed. There is so much to breeding that I didn't want any part of that. Let the pros handle that.

I just wanted to say that I agree with everything Wylie's Mom said to you. He is a beautiful Yorkie and it sounds as though he chose you to be his family from what you said about him following your hubby and then bouncing off your storm door for 2 hours. He was not going to give up. He wanted his home to be with you guys. lol

You did the right thing but breeding him wouldn't be. At this point he is a rescue and you have no idea the hell he has possibly been through so fixing him and loving him like you are doing now is the best option. When your a good breeder it's not just about breeding full breed dogs it's also about bettering the breed. In order to do tht you have to know his lines to know if any illnesses run in them otherwise you could be setting him up to pass on genetic illnesses that could cause his puppies to suffer a lot and or the buyers heart break and thousands of dollars. Studs also will mark all over you house. Please do not breed him.

Hi and welcome to YT. I honestly don't think akc is going to register him without paperwork from his breeders about his sire and dam. He is a handsome little guy but I agree he should be spayed and loved. Just a thought did you by chance happen to check Craigslist when you found him or post there? That seems to be where a lot post their lost pets here in Missouri.

Thank you all for the information , advice and help!!! I spoke with my daughter and she also agrees no matter what I should not breed him . Having it suggested to me , I got a little excited, But I don't need or want him running off , he is my heart now. Every morning he wakes me with kisses all over my face and bounces around like Tigger on the bed. He sleeps at my feet every night and at this point if he ran off I would be losing my baby. My kids are grown so I was an empty nester till Butch came along. Now I feel like I have a baby again, at 48 that's kind of special. Gosh, Yorkshires are beautiful loving little Angels from God!

It sounds like he has come home from all you say. He is so comfortable with you and loving with his morning kisses and sleeping at your feet and bouncing around like Tigger. Maybe he was sent to you from God after all. Sure sounds like a perfect match made in heaven. Bless you and your new little one. Thanks for sharing the story of how you all met up. It sounds like you found a little diamond in the rough :). Even with a DNA test showing that he is a purebred Yorkie, the AKC won't register him unless his parents are known and also AKC registered, so enjoy him for the special little dog that he is.

Welcome to Yorkie Talk, where we all know how wonderful these little Yorkie fur kids are. It is heartwarming to hear how Butch found you, and charmed his way into your heart. You are both blessed.

I think it is a good choice to have him neutered and help assure that he will not take off again and break your heart. He is adorable and will make a wonderful lifetime companion.

Does the vet have any idea about how old he is (sorry if I missed that)?

Hi and welcome to YT. I loved your story of how Butch found you and you all became a new family. Thank you so much for rescuing this little ball of fur. Yorkies are incredible loving little sweethearts and Butch will fill your world with joy. Yorkie Talk is a great website for information. You will learn that toy dogs need special care because of their size. You will need to research vaccinations as the preferred method is to space them out with two weeks between because they sometimes have adverse reactions to receiving too much vaccine at one time. Butch is such a handsome boy and I am so glad you all have found each other!
