Blue buffalo alleged false advertising |
Yes but Purina is doing it and I think they are just trying to hurt competiton |
We have another thread on the whole sordid mess here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...e-buffalo.html My take on it is that it's too early to tell the facts in this case. We'll have to wait and see what comes out in court. In the meantime, Purina is starting a high-risk advertising campaign based on this lawsuit. |

My personal opinion: This is the pot calling the kettle black. The FDA does not require that any pet food company list all ingredients in their products. They are also not required to inform the consumer where the ingredients are sourced. I do believe Blue has been taking customers away from Purina but it should be interesting to watch this case develop. Does Purina really want to expose it's products to the scrutiny they want Blue to be put under? They would both fail if the truth were made known to the public.....but that probably won't happen. |

I don't care who's doing it if it helps keep companies truthful. Sure, the competition has a lot of incentive to call them out on their misrepresentation, and I'm sure it isn't cheap to have an independent laboratory do the testing, so your average consumer won't be able to do this. There was probably a whistle blower who worked for Blue Buffalo who gave Purina the facts, and I think it's great. I personally don't believe a company would want to bring forth this complaint unless it were true, the backlash could prove disastrous. As far as comparing this to chicken jerky, so many companies, not just Purina, bought the chicken jerky that was made in China. It took a long time before they could find out what was causing the problem because most dogs ate it and were fine, tests were inconclusive for a long time. This is different because they weren't claiming it's one thing and it's another, and that is what Blue Buffalo is doing. |
