What is a Yorkies length? I just got my baby's crate today it is made by Midwest and is the 22" with divider. I was wondering if my Yorkie will still fit when he is not a puppy anymore. My breeder says he will be between 4-5 pounds. He is a full breed Yorkie not a Silky Terrier. I know Silky Terriers grow longer. Can anyone tell me how long they usually get and does it vary depending on size? |
size I find 2x3 ideal in size. Room for a bed and play area..room to get out of bed to potty. Yorkies will wet their bedding if not given enough room..pups are not good at holding their bladders for more then 2 hrs..my tinies wee about every hr. |
Thanks for your reply Pat. I am a stay at home mom so the puppy most likely will not be in his crate very much but what I was wondering is how long do they get? (like body length) I went to the AKC page and it does not state anywhere how long their body's are. |
I think Gracie from neck to tail is 9" but it varies there is not one specific length all Yorkies grow in weight, length and height differently just as a human or any other breed of dog. They vary. There may be an average or common rangle of length but I am not sure what that would be... |
How old is your puppy and how much does she weigh? Do you think that my puppy will fit in his crate full grown? |
Gracie is 6 pounds and shes 6 months old. She hasnt grown much in the last month. I think you should be fine. If you are using this crate for bedtime, naptime, and short away periods I think it would work fine. Most times they say a dog needs just enough room to lay, turn around and stand. I have a hard time with that only because I wouldnt like to be cramped in a spot that only allows me to stand and turn in a circle I cant imagine a dog being comfortable. So yes 22" should be plenty of room I think my neighbors Yorkie is about 11" I just made a basketball jersey for him and his length was 11" and he's 5 1/2 pounds. |
Thanks so much for you reply like I stated earlier I am a stay at home mom so he will not be using it much, the only reason I got it is to housebreak him. We live in an apartment and I will be litter box training him with the secondnature from Purina. Eventually I would love for him to have free roam (when he is old enough of course) of the house and sleep in one of those comfy pet beds :) |

The crate I got is from Midwest and comes with the divider insert to make the crate smaller or bigger, basically is supposed to be able to grow with the puppy. |
I am not planning on putting the litter box in the crate. I am only using it for when I need him in a safe place and for him to go to sleep in. Am I using it for the wrong purpose? You guys are the experienced ones so I do not know, I have had other dogs before but never a puppy this small and all were already housebroken. |
