Will fish oil help
 
A puppy with dry flaky skin. Max does not scratch. When I brush him it looks like dandruff I do brush him daily and bathe weekly. I use a puppy oatmeal shampoo and a conditioner. Ty for and help

We used fish oil and treats high in Omega 3 Fatty Acids when my pups skin started to look dry and it did seem to help. My vet had some fish oil chews that the pups really liked.

Our vet recommended that I give Teddy fish oil to help with his dry and flakey coat that got kind of icky over the winter...it really has helped a lot. We use Nordic Naturals (the one in the dropper bottle although it comes in a soft gel as well) and it's great. Teddy is flake-free and looks so much better! I also give it to Toki for her joints (not sure how much it helps but at least she'll have a good coat!).

You could also try virgin organic coconut oil. Some people add it to food and some rub it on the dry areas.

Yes, it will help some but get this product from your VET.
Continue with Oatmeal baths.. I have rinsed my pup with Aveno Oatmeal Bath after using the Oatmeal shampoos. ;)Put Aveno in a Basin with warm water mix well and pour this water over her with a measuring cup..

Yes, fish oil may help irritated skin. I would discontinue using any oatmeal shampoo on a dog w/ skin issues though - vet dermatologists recommend NOT using oatmeal products as they actually irritate the skin. Use something gentle and hydrating.

Leo had dry skin as a puppy. First thing my vet did was check for mites, then recommended a diet high in fish. I also started using Paws 'n Claws dry skin conditioner every night during brush-outs. He is 9 months old now and has a beautiful silky coat.

Lexi had the same issue as a pup. My vet also did a skin test for mites. All Negative.. I started using NU VET Formula "OATMEAL" Shampoo and she no longer has DRY SKIN ITCH issues.. I was also giving her Derm Caps fish oil prescribed by my Vet. May I add:

Nu Vet makes some of the BEST products. Lexi takes their vitamins daily! and uses their "OATMEAL" formula shampoo. Her SKIN ISSUES ARE GONE.

I was introduced to this company and their line of products at the YTCA show in NYC..

I use virgin coconut oil or you can get Cocotherapy coconut chips.

Like Wylie's Mom mentioned, if your pup is allergic to grains, oatmeal is not good for him. Grains are also food for yeast & all dogs have some degree of yeast on their skin. Yeasty dogs are itchy dogs. Try a good conditioning shampoo w/natural ingredients, sulfate free would be best followed by a conditioner. When I use shampoos w/sulfates in it, it makes my scalp itch like cwazzie.

Fish oil is awesome but krill oil is superior. No stinky fishy breath either!

Well, the OP HAS been using oatmeal shampoo & her puppy STILL has dry flaky skin, so I think she's better off using something WITHOUT oatmeal.
