Fleas and ticks I have used frontline plus for years. What does everyone use on their yorkies? |
Hi, some ppl have stopped using front line, I live in Pa. a heavily wooded area, deer passing and jumping in my yard all the time. I have also use front line from the day it went on the market, due to seeing many ppl stop using it, I just asked my vet what should I use, she said front Line, so Front line it is. It worked on my other dogs, they had no reaction to it. This lil boy I just adopted in Nov. He had his first dose of front line last week, I'll see how it works on him. |
Frontline stopped working for ticks here a few years ago so I use Advantix. |
I have stopped using Frontline a long time ago.. I started using Comfortis for a while, but the price on that has gone sky high, at this time I am just spraying the yard with the Bayers Bug spray, wash my babies with the Adams shampoo & recently read to use cedar chips & nematodes worms... It has def worked & will stick with the worms. I am in florida & the season has started already... so I am doing everything to keep them OFF my babies. Good Luck. |
I have been using Trifexis. |
My vet is suggesting Seresto a new flea and tick collar. I just ordered this for my Boncuk. (below is what the website says.) "Seresto™ Flea & Tick Collar for dogs is an effective alternative to monthly flea and tick topicals or drops. Extended release of 2 active ingredients kills fleas and ticks for 8 months" |

It depends what kins of ticks do you have. A lot of products do not kill deer ticks. I made a list to help : Sentinel only does fleas and worms like heart worm and tape worm, hook worm, round worm Comfortis for fleas only Revolution protects against heartworm, fleas, American Dog ticks, ear mites, and Sarcoptic mange mites when used as directed. K9 Advantix II kills flea and ticks including deer Advantage is flea and lice Advantage II for fleas Capstar for fleas Frontline Plus flea and ticks including deer ticks Vectra is fleas only Vectra D is for fleas and ticks including deer ticks I hope this helps everyone out |
I have always used Frontline. It is only put on our dogs if they are going out of town. We have managed to keep the yard critter free for several years. I still do a body search on a regular basis,my dogs sleep with me. |
We have used frontline for 14 years. Works great for us. |
We use Parastar. We found a deer tick on Bubba over the weekend. Attached but not swollen. They are really tiny. I thought it was a deer tick but wasn't positive so I put it in a jar with alcohol and took it to the vet on Monday. He confirmed it was a deer tick. He didn't feel we needed to go to ABX since the tick wasn't engorged but we will watch him. He is due in a couple months for his check up. I can't believe how small deer ticks are! |

http://www.amazon.com/Bayer-Seresto-...ews/B00B8CG602 amazon has mixed reviews but it seems to be to strong and cause health issues more than good reports. |

Thanks Again |
Working in a vet clinic I do not trust fleas/tick collars. I saw way to many dogs/cats come in the clinic poisoned by them. Advantix put my 9lb Shih tzu into a reaction where my vet had to give Valium to stop head tick. Guess I will have to stick with Frontline plus. We camp a lot and deer ticks are plentiful. Thanks for so much info |
I do not like collars. First the medicine is concentrated around their heads only. It does not spread though out the body. The dog can start chewing on it which can make them sick or even kill them. Or they can get caught on something and hang themselves. . . . |
