How many tricks do your babies know? Mine knows about 15 tricks.. She knows sit, down, kiss, come, stay, high five, left paw, right paw, wave, roll, turn, take it, drop it, bring it and dance. I really ran out of ideas, though.. I want to teach her more, lol. I'm finding tricks such as putting toys into a toy box difficult to teach, and how to play patty cake. How do you go about teaching more advanced tricks such as that? I'm also thinking if you guys tell me what tricks your babies know that might give me some more ideas, haha.. she loves her training sessions! :p |
Sophie dances for treats but that is her only trick. She has my husband and I doing lots! :D |
Bentely on knows about four tricks. Sit, down, stay and shake. I teaching him more as we go i stopped though because i gave him some new treats for traning n they made him sick (tummy ache). So we are on a break now. |
Wow you're little one knows a LOT of tricks! I'm so new to training and new to having a yorkie too. My pomeranian only knows sit, down, stay, come, roll and play dead. Those were pretty easy ones to teach but it was forever ago. What are some of the techniques you use to teach tricks? |
Wow! Thats a lot of tricks! Maverick only know a couple: sit, lay down, treat, and we're working on stay. But like BlueBell, he's making us perform quite a lot :D |
There are 2 cute & maybe easy ones I've seen: "Body check": your dog stands facing the wall with her front paws up on the wall & you pat them down like a police officer would. "Pray": Your dog is sitting looking at you, you say "pray", & she just bows her head. Good luck! |
I really can't list them all, lol, I forget off the top of my head. Here's a video from 2011, and he's got more tricks since then, plus worked better on the ones that were still a work-in-progress. We love to train, and he enjoys it so much too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yj9F-V6hWUg Here's a list for some ideas. I know I am forgetting some that he knows. Working on a new video now. jump through hoop down high-five close door spin/spin the other way get me a tissue limp backwards circles around your legs take your sock off shake dance roll over come cover your eyes peek-a-boo speak drop it sit pretty say your prayers play dead weave poles weave through legs crawl circles take a bow back up stay/come under shame (head under pillow) basketball catch |
Brister, Jackson is so cute! I love the trick when he waves his paw above his head lol, so cute. How did you teach him to put the blanket into the little pink luggage? That's what I've been trying to teach Chloe but I feel it's too many commands at once (take it, hold it, put it in box) so I'm not sure how to do it. |

I love the roll trick, lol. I just use little pieces of her fav fruit like mango or sometimes boiled carrots (idk, she loves them.. lol) and I just try to show her what I want her to do. For example, for "dance".. I just put my hand slightly higher up with the piece of fruit in my hand so that she gets up on 2 legs and then she kind of dances around :p Left and right paw I taught her by first teaching her "paw" and then taught left/right by offering my own left or right hand to her left or right paw. It's easy to teach that after your baby learns "paw".. then high five is pretty simple too because when your baby gives you "paw" you lift your hands a little higher and it looks like a high five. :) It's kinda tough to explain in text, hope what I said makes sense. |
